Program to record time spent on projects
I work on various different projects at work and I need to submit a timesheet at the end of the week. If i'm going between 5 different projects in a day i've no idea what i've been working on.
Ideally I want an app that I can populate with my projects and when I work on one I can just start the clock and then when i move onto the next one I start the clock on that and at the end of the day I have a summary of how long i've spent on each one.
I've googled it and there seem to be a view apps but its always best to use one that comes recommended.
How does everyone else manage their project time at work?
Re: Program to record time spent on projects
Various methods you can use.
We have a system at work where we use marbles. We have a pot for each project and we put marbles in daily for how many hours we spent on each one.
You could make the marbles equal to 30 mins, 1 hour or whatever figure you choose. Then enter them into a Gantt Chart or spreadsheet of your choosing each day/week.
Once the project is done you take away that bowl.
At the end of the week we use an Oracle system which will be too much for home use but is what our parent company require us to use.

Marble system seems a good way of doing it, could do it with lego bricks or something similar have a pile for each project and build something at my desk with them :)
Re: Program to record time spent on projects
Yep Lego would work. We have used that too
Re: Program to record time spent on projects
Sure you wont spend more time building the lego than working on the project ;-)

Quick update for anyone interested. I've been using Toggl https://www.toggl.com which is amazing. So easy to use and there is an android app as well. You can generate reports from it and I can easily see how long I've been working on each project and then accurately complete my timesheet once a week instead of many times a day.

LOL!!! Marbles and Lego? Srsly? Wow! In this day and age i would have thought an app or spreadsheet would be the norm.
But we too have to input the time spent on a job, not for pay purposes, just as an admin/stat thing and to be honest it's finger in the air best guess type of stuff :( So maybe lego or marbles is better than nothing i suppose!!

Software Engineers are Geeks, true story. Add some Lego/marbles into their working day and they shit themselves with excitement ;)
It is all about innovation, using the part of the brain us not-so-geeky-geeks don't know exists ;)
