torn between two cars.

Hi guys,
SoI'm looking to change my car in the next few months. At the moment I'm driving a vauxhall Omega Elite. It's fully loaded and drives like a charm, despite the 160k on the clock.
The two I'm torn between as a replacement is either:

Lexus LS430
or
Audi A8.

Looking to spend @8k

I've done a fair bit of reading and understand the hideous fuel consumption on both, but I don't care. I want a car with loads of toys, plush under my arse and something powerful under the bonnet.

So it's going to be one of these two.

Opinions? experience?

Any sensible advice welcomed chaps.

What year and spec does 8k buy you of each? Imagine you'd get a new bettter Lexus?

TBH it seems to be mileage dependent. Ranges from 03 to 06 plates. There looks to be some half decent 70k models out there, on both which is fuck all on an auto box and a 3-4 litre engine

This isn't the unpleasant video I was expecting.

Out of those two I'd go Lexus, but that's more because I have a thing against modern Audi's.

Whilst i I am waiting for my new company car to be delivered (Beemer 330d), the fleet manager has given me one of these to drive, a Jag XF 3.0 V6 petrol.
I love it, it purs along beautifully and my fat executive arse is ensconced in the finest heated cow hide (with additional heated steering wheel).

And finally living in Switzerland but driving about in an English car feels extra special, I'm almost regretting the Beemer now :(

the value of the jag will fall through the floor in a few years, besides which after getting one youll end up looking like clarkson

the lexus seems to also have lost its label as a desired car, long since the mid nineties

id go for the audi personally, based on looks and not too many negative reports

Thats only the case if you buy new, a 4 year old one has already depreciated massively meaning a gentle slope onwards. This is not like Jags of yore, the XF is in a different league to the frankly awful x type ( mondeo)

I would have thought that for £8,000 you would have to get an A8 that's already clocked up 80k which isn't necessarily an issue, but to get one fully loaded, you'll be looking a good few years old.

You'd potentially get better value for money with the Lexus in terms of the toys and gadgets.

Another vote for the Lexus. It will be a hell of a lot cheaper to maintain and Lexus always had a reputation for its magic carpet like ride.

The Audi's body is aluminium so will cost a bomb to fix any dings too.

Your budget of 8k suggests you want the best value for money, Lexus all the way. Drive it till it drops though as I imagine it won't be worth anything after a few more years.

Always found Audis to be an unreliable piece of shit. I'd go for the Lexus. Although I have yet to own a Lexus myself, only good reviews from colleagues who have.

I am tempted to part ex my Merc for the Jag. But I'd want the V8.

just wondering what car you ended up getting

There are a few XF's on auto trader now for around the 4/5 Grand price range that have done under 60K miles(3.0 V6 TD AUTO) that have all the creature comforts, my Dad currently has the X Type and is looking to upgrade to an XF in a year or 2
