Saturn info needed
I'm getting a PAL SS in a weeks time, but as a PAL machine usually is, or isn't, it's not much fun with it just being able to play PAL games, I want 50/60Hz switches and country region selection.
Could anybody offer some help on this topic?
Also, which kind of Saturn machines are the easiest to modify, I've learned that there is a difference in the shape of some of the buttons, on the joypad or on the console itself....
Anyone?

try lik sang for sat mod info, its fairly helpfull, failing that i hope you know french as most of the best saturn sites are in french.

Cheers m8, but what I really need to know is what the differences are between the different shapes of buttons?
Anyone, plz, help!

you definitely want a model 2 with the round buttons on the machines as these are 21 pin saturns and as such you can get a mod for them.
Alot of the old model 1's are 20 pin and theres no mod available for them although some model 1'2 are 21 pin.
Another pain is that some model 2's are what you call a 64 pin mod (the mod is attached to a 64 pin chip) and some are not the 64 pin one is a pain as not all mods work for it as I am discovering :(
I have a model 2 (round buttons) 21 pin (64 pin mod style) and so far I've had a mod board from lan-kwei and from lik-sang and neither have worked. I'm ordering another board from ********* then I'm gonna be getting a new saturn if that doesnt work.
try this site for info http://www.litespeedcomputers.com/sx/

Thanks a lot bobbydavro.
Does anyone know which model is the easiest one to perform this: http://www.trsoft.demon.co.uk/satmod.htm mod on? That's what I'm really interested in, as I can't stand having NTSC games running in 60Hz, and I want the cartridge slot open for a possible RAM upgrade cartridge.

Well the model I have was a piece of piss to turn to 60HZ :)
I have the model 2 round buttons 21 pin which requires the mod to be attached to the 64 pin chip, and all I had to do was close JP1 on the bottom of the motherboard and bingo 60HZ :D
now if I can just get a working mod for it I wont have to disk swap and I'm away!

60Hz AND import games? Disk swapping is only for them "back-ups", or?

Closing JP1 makes your machine 60HZ for everything even for the PAL games that normally get bordered and are 50HZ eg Sega Rally

hi,
looks like i got an NTSC-US old model saturn with the oval buttons and i ordered my mod from ncsx.com years ago ;) it always worked but as far as i can remember it was a bitch to mod...
now i would like to mod my NTSC saturn with a 50/60hz switch... but it doesnt work! i always get distorted lines and then the saturn hangs itself up ;) has anyone tried this so far on a usa saturn ???
i know on one PAL model its simply a cut on the pcb and on the other models the method described on several pages works, but on a NTSC saturn the situation seems to be entire different...
thx
