Re: Any Chromecast users?
I honestly don't get the chromecast. It doesn't do it's job very well at all imho. I had a play with one for an hour and it's out performed by any cheap knock off android box with a mali gpu (including many ageing phones!).
A one trick pony that doesn't do it's trick very well. Like your mate in the pub who has one joke and tells it anytime he gets the chance, but it really isn't that funny.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
Hey,
wow! I guess it has only cost me £12 though and should display my photos without issue.. I hope!
I wonder if once the Amazon Fire TV goes global that Google might try yet again!
But still, if anyone does have any tricks with the Chromecast then let me know.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
Absolutely, I didn't mean to dampen your fire. Any toy for £12 is a good toy ;)
It looks like it has more scope than a real chromecast anyway.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
Can't work out if its a Chromecast copy, running copied/cracked CC firmware or just an Android TV Stick made to look like a CC. Either way, for £12, I'm tempted just to play.
Already got a US and UK CC and I echo maltloaf's opinion re purpose etc. The UK one's never been out of the box.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
How do you control the Chromecast?
With the knock off I have had to download an EZ-Cast app. You then control through the iPhone/iPad etc
Re: Any Chromecast users?
Chromecast + Plex + iPad Mini = win for me. Absolutely perfect for the bedroom and also damn handy when the Missus wants to use the big screen in the front room, but can't use XBMC as I'm using the PC.
But each to their own. No doubt there are different/better options out there I'm not aware of. But for a quick jaunt to PC World and 30 notes, I'm not gonna grumble! :)
Re: Any Chromecast users?
I adore my chromecast.
Being able to use it for YouTube and Netflix is really handy.
Admittedly it doesn't do much else, but for me just using it with those two apps makes it thirty pounds well spent.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
at 15 quid on fleebay its worth a dable but i do prefer my now tv boxes, now have 3 in the house & at £9.95 a better buy
Re: Any Chromecast users?
Got Now TV boxes, Apple TV 2, NAS box, smart TV etc... But the footprint of the dongle is much more attractive and portable to boot.
So has anyone tried it with casual gaming?
Re: Any Chromecast users?
You can mirror your phone now as well.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
Have mine plugged into my x1. Great for snapping catchup TV, music, sky sports and love using plex on it.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
I love my Chromecast, and would never have called it a one trick pony. Play Moves, YouTube, Netflix, iPlayer, Plex, Avia, PopcornTime, BT Sport, Blinkbox, to name a few make it a much used piece of kit in my house. Not to mention all the home-dev apps that's out there. Well worth the 30 nicker!
Re: Any Chromecast users?
Can you mirror you're phone with the chromecast by using wireless display?, as I'm not on kitkat.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
I think phone mirroring on KK and above only....just now.
Re: Any Chromecast users?
Tried using on my chrome book works OK but really jittery on 4od
Re: Any Chromecast users?
I have 2, no problems to speak of....love 'em.

If you use Chrome as your browser, it will cast anything to your screen that appears in the browser window.
