Help identifying component - switch
Long shot but I need help identifying this component as it needs to be replaced. It is a volume wheel on a car headunit and it has a push button as it doubles up as a power button. The wheel works fine but there is no click when it is pressed inwards, it's as if the button has got stuck down.
There are no markings which makes it tricky... Might have to head over to RS Components tomorrow.
Cheers
Re: Help identifying component - switch
If its knackered anyway, try cleaning it with wd40, might be worth a gamble. Looks like quite a unique component to that device imo, but I could be wrong.
Re: Help identifying component - switch
Looks like it might be called a rotary encoder push switch. I ordered some digital callipers last week so will measure it when they arrive.
Mine isn't threaded but this looks like it and in the applications it lists volume and power switch:

Removed my photos as they were large.
Re: Help identifying component - switch
It's called a vertical encoder with switch but I am struggling to find one that matches these dimensions. Looks like Alps make them, I have estimated the encoder has around 30 positions and I think it has 0.5 travel on the switch but the actuator length of mine is 15mm rather than 20mm. Will keep looking, this might be compatible but it isn't metal http://www.rapidonline.com/electroni...switch-49-6180
Re: Help identifying component - switch
From what i remember about where you live Rapid isn't that far away so worth a shot?
Re: Help identifying component - switch
NOT WD40!!!! you'll need some switch cleaner, servisol with or without lubricant, WD40 is a bit heavy duty for your needs. . .
Re: Help identifying component - switch
Cant see you pics , whats the model of the head unit?
Re: Help identifying component - switch
I think I have found a compatible part at rapid, I meant to say rapid rather than RS :p I will take it in and see. Its a Zenec custom headunit for the Audi A3. I have found the parts now but most dimensions are off which is annoying.
