Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
Today I have bought a jigsaw (that works with batteries I already have) and a big sheet of mdf which I got b&q to cut into 3 sections for me. I have 2 x 180cm panels to cut to shape for the 2 sides plus the remainder which I think is wide enough to make at least some of the front and rear panels. Also got loads of fixings and brackets and screws so just got to draw a design on one side panel, cut it out and then cut the other side the same. I'll probably need another half a sheet I reckon to finish ever panel but this should be enough to make something that will stand up and be secure enough.
Ordered 2 joysticks, lots of buttons and USB encoders yesterday which I'm hoping will arrive in the next few days.
Looking forward to having a crack at it and if it all goes wrong it's only cost me £18 for the mdf.
Cheers,
Malty

Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
Had an hour cutting bits of mdf up this evening and have made both side pieces, the top, bottom, the panel below the control panel and one rear panel. I should have a standing carcass pretty early tomorrow as long as nothing else comes up.
I have gone for a midi sized cabinet as I like them rather than full height. I may have made it a little too wide at 600mm but I wanted to give myself some flexibility on the monitor size.
Cheers,
Malty
Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
Did some messing with my setup last night and the set of Roms posted.
I am yet to configure the buttons/joystick in game (after changing emulator as per Maltloafs post) but the game run now.
A piece of advice however.. If you are going to group your roms into Alphabetical folders as I did, make sure you put the NEOGEO.zip file in each folder.
In addition I have found that Attract Mode does not appear to support sub folders.. More investigation needed but I could live with Emulation Station if I had to.
Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
Haven't had any time to build anything today as I had to go buy supplies for my missus' cake business but I have ordered a 22" TV from Tesco's ebay store which should be arriving tomorrow.
My controls and buttons have been dispatched too so hopefully they will show up in a couple of days.

Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
Got an hour spare this evening so screwed my cut pieces together. Since I've done it without any plans or anything I think it's going rather well. I have run out of mdf now so will have to buy another half sheet tomorrow and put a ton more fixings in but it's actually pretty sturdy as it is and will be more so when there are more front and rear panels in.
Cheers

Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
Think about putting castors/wheels on the bottom because all that MDF will be quite heavy.

I'm going to continue building it outside but the final build will be in the room where it's going to live (an upstairs spare room)
Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
looking spot on mate, I agree with Wadgey that you might want to consider some wheels / castors as they can be bloody annoying to move.
also are you going to paint the cab and apply artwork or just put the artwork on as is?
Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
I'm going to make everything up so I have every panel ready then assemble it in situ.
I will look at some castors but I didn't really want them if I'm honest.
Plan is to paint it then vinyl graphics. I'm thinking car spray paint but haven't thought that far ahead yet. My missus has a machine that will cut vinyl for t-shirts etc so we should be able to knock something decent up.
My 22" TV arrived this morning, £70 brand new from Tesco and looks spot on. I've also been to buy the remaining mdf, some hinges for the rear door and a few odd brackets for where sheets meet at funny angles so we should be good to go today. Just need my arcade controls to arrive...
Oh and I need some Perspex for in front of the screen not sure where to get that yet, possibly a glazing firm

Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
That sounds like a plan, quite jealous, I do regret getting rid of my MVS cab but the monitor had gone funny on it and i just done like messing with the old arcade CRT's as if you dont discharge them correctly theirs a good chance your going to kill yourself
that 22" TV for £70 is a fookin bargain mate
managed to get some pics together of my Game Room / Shed
Its a 4.5m x 4.5m Wooden Summer House purchased from TigerSheds, I had them move the door and window locations to what I wanted.
What's Inside?
Projector and 3m wide screen
Pool Table
Dartboard
32" TV (mounted on wall) Connected to a Wii with 2 House of the Dead guns - shoot em up style
3x Touchscreen Quiz Machines (the 2 megatouch ones are connected together for vs. games)
Sega Rally Arcade Machine (completely stripped and now running an emulator on an old i5 laptop)
2 Sofas
We have framed any old programmes from shows we have seen (O in vegas, Wicked, Phantom of the opera) and mounted them in the gaps on the ceiling
Here is the building of it:
Attachment 30511
^ Made a base for the shed to sit on
Attachment 30512
^ Starting to come together
Attachment 30513
^ Nearly finished
Here is the inside:
Attachment 30514
^ The old man watching football with a beer
Attachment 30515
^ Projector with a 3m wide screen
Attachment 30516
^ 3x Touchscreen Quiz machines
These have all been built from scratch using parts bought online
2x MegaTouch 2014
1x Custom SWP Windows XP Box
- These front of the quiz machines is usually covered, this was to show what the insides look like.
Attachment 30517
^ Sega Rally Arcade Driver
This has had the original insides completely removed (Monitor, mainboard etc.)
I have dropped an i5 laptop inside (screen casing was damaged and being thrown away by work)
Used the Sega Model 2 Emulator to load Segs Rally Rom
Got a sound amp to connect to the original speakers
Dropped a 32" TV inside
Used an A-Pac to connect to the original driving controls (Wheel, Pedals and Gears all work along with buttons for credit and view etc.)
Attachment 30518
^ Here is my old MVS Cab (now sold)
You can just make out a custom built jukebox I had built (now donated to a friend)
Attachment 30519
^ Here is the Bartop me and a friend built (now sold)
wasnt the best and had a few design flaws (look at the buttons on the right) but did the job

Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
Mystical, that building is great, did you have concrete under that wooden base?

Nope, I thought we would have to use a concrete base but my dad (a builder for 50+ years) was having none of it and said the wooden base would be fine.
To be fair, I've had a lot more weight in the building over the years (had it nearly 5 years now) and it doesnt seem to have moved an inch
That pool table is VERY heavy too, along with the arcade racer
Re: RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 3
I've got a few machines left from a far bigger collection I had a few years back. Got a turbo outrun upright which has been modified to run the original outrun, also Ivan ironman Stewart's super off road (3 player stand up with wheels etc) and also a generic cabinet wired for konami type boards which is running track and field. Also I have in my garage my brother's Star Wars pinball. Sadly none of these are set up at the moment..,
