Default That sickening feeling you get when your main HDD loses all its partitions !!!

    I feel sick.
I have backups but cant remember when I last did !!

Was using it fine. Did a reboot. Nothing happening. Booted from USB, look at disc in Linux, 2TB drive with NO partitions.
Have now installed Windows to spare HDD and that shows same, nothing on the 2TB drive.

Running recovery software on it now so will just have to see what it finds overnight and then hopefully the rest will be in backups.

Hey ho, not the first time and deffo wont be the last.

    Merry xmas ;-)

I have a auto backup that runs every Sunday. I have to remember to save/close everything before hand though!

Absolutely and I have a backup from 3 weeks ago. However I have done a lot of work since then so gonna try recover what I can. :-)

Unless we all backed up every day or ran stripe raid arrays then some data will always be lost. However I am now on the Port so for now my sense of loss is reduced lol

FRS, I haven't made a backup in years under the excuse that there's nothing really valuable on my ageing PC. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow

everything I can't afford to lose is in the cloud now. Anything that is only on a single computer will be generic and can be replaced. Sod backing up.

Well I have been a lucky fucking bunny. Looks like it has found 90% of what I was worried about.

Highly recommend 'OnTrack EasyRecovery Enterprise' ... what a god send :-) Restoring as I speak. It also checked the HDD fully and declared zero drive errors so in theory was a software/glitch hmmmmm (I believe you)

Better than any I have used before.

Back on the Port.. now where is that cheese !

Had same worry earlier this week. 2tb and 3tb disappeared from win 7.
Ran every seagate tool they have to offer with no errors.
Hey ho - no time to worry now though. Christmas bills and new year to come, the pc will have to wait till Jan

BTW what media do you guys use when you backup hds? Ie if I backup my 2 & 3 then I need a 5. That makes backups not cost effective

FYI. Had to take a customers HDD to a physical data recovery company about 6 months ago and drove it to a company somewhere near Cambridge to drop off as it was urgent. I remember dropping the Seagate Barracuda and when I spoke to the engineer later that day he told me how over 3/4 of all drives they work on are Seagate and its been like that for years and claims they are very unreliable.

Got Western Digital myself but it will be in the back of my mind next time I need to purchase.

    Thanks to piggzy

Never had any issues with seagates, got a WD up in the kids pc that sometimes fails the smart test on windows boot. but is still going after 2 years. Nothing on there that cant be re-installed when it finally goes as its a d drive

I have just updated my acronis via DC+ now running Acronis true image 2016. made another backup just in case it screws up but after recovering my boot sector all is well. If anyone wants it ill stick in the usual places

I don't tend to back up my crap. Because it's mostly crap. The wife has loads of Photo's, but she uploads them to cloud for safe keeping.

Don't have a high spec PC, we just use a few laptops.

How much of your hard drive space is occupied by crap?

I've used Acronis for years. Make a basic original install back up then once a month do a current one.
