Default How to make a wardrobe in this space

I need to make a wardrobe within this space in a bedroom.

I want to maximise the space possible so thinking of putting in two rails, one higher, at the back, and one a few inches lower and closer for every day things. I plan to put a motion sensor LED light within the cupboard, and I want some space to be accessible underneath for flat storage items.

I was literally thinking of fixing a block either side of at the heights, and drill a whole to fit a pole in either end, and not have a middle support.

    What are your thoughts chaps?

Hahahah you fucking joker. I don't like the idea of having something flimsy like the stand alone systems.

Not sure about your block idea. This would be the normal way to go about it!

Hmm yeah. Attaching to plasterboard is my concern. With the weight of a few suits etc not sure it'd hold without a support. Think I prefer yours to a stand alone option.

Ikea do the pokes and end pieces for hanging

Apart from that, since battons either side and a shelf...

Use a piece of broom handle. Can you not just remove the bottom bit and make it more usable?

    Sounds like a good plan.
Got a very similar setup in our bedroom cupboard. Single rail across the width. Fairly high up so that other stuff can be put underneath. Nowadays though things get stuffed into place rather than actually put into a right and proper place.

I went with round sockets either end and a round bar similar to
    https://www.screwfix.com/p/rothley-co...9-x-25mm/99012 and
    https://www.screwfix.com/p/rothley-co...m-2-pack/67065

If you're worried about the plasterboard, there should be a couple of vertical studs approx 400mm or 600mm apart within the cupboard that you could screw another stud to, then mount the rail or whatever. Touch wood - ours has been in place for many years packed with all manner of clothing. You might even be lucky and find a stud is pretty much where you want a rail to be.

If you remove the bottom panel, you'll might find yourself a bit more space. Ours had a triangle of space above the stairs' slope. I was tempted to remove the cupboard base to make ours full length but in the end settled for the rail and the triangle.2017-01-09 17.04.24 (Small).jpg

Thanks guys for the input. I will remove the carpet and have a look if I can get more spare under.

I think you're bang on with the rail and rackets, seems much better than a floating rail in there.

Will let you know how I get on.
