Default Going for a job in a School and need help with the application.

Filled all the usual stuff in, the tick boxes, the grades, work experience etc... but now, the bit I am totally crap with is the blurb.

    The heading literally states -
Please use the person specification as a prompt to describe the experience, skills, competencies and qualifications that make you suitable for this post.
These may have been gained from your work experience, any voluntary or community work or any other organisation you may have been involved with.
You should ensure that any information submitted reflects your experience relating to the competencies that are detailed in the Person Specification (please continue on a separate sheet if necessary).
This piece of the application asks about things like communication, working with kids, working with others, current responsibilities and the general part about knowledge of H&S, Data Protection etc.

I keep coming up with stuff to put down, but reading it back sounds really crap and not what they are actually asking for and I could really do with scoring this job/career.
It's for an ICT Technician position and I feel that this section is the bit that will make or break the next step to the interview.

Anyone able to come up with some decent way to say you've experience all this with out coming across too arse licky.

Would really appreciate you boys advice on this, especially knowing some of you lads have managed to score similar positions in the past - or indeed in the position of hiring and firing the techys!
It's only an entry level position, but I'm willing to start at the ground level and work my way up, I'm pretty sure once I'm in and they see what I'm capable of, things may improve reasonably quickly.

Advice, suggestions of things to write and witty banter welcomed!
    Thanks Lads.

    South Essex.
Anywhere between Dartford and Southend and I guess as far north as Chelmsford - commuting distance for me.
As if I would be so lucky that your position is within those areas!

About £17k to start, more or less. I'll take a pay cut, but least it's a job a know I'll enjoy.

Send me a PM with your personal email - I'll put something together for you. I'll reply with mine.

Then send me through what you have put so far - I'll flesh it out for you.

I was a senior technician for Siemens Nixdorf for 8 years so I think I'm qualified in this area.

I take it you need it ASAP?

    Thanks to crazyal

As someone who applied and was interviewed for the same position in a school they want experience of working in a school/education environment. You can read about my experience here http://digital-forums.com/showthread...Shiting-myself
At the time I had about 15 years of it tech and support so more than qualified but I was let down by lack of experience working in a school.

Thinking back questions like what would you do if a pupil was damaging it equipment, obviously beat the crap out of said pupil is the wrong response but you should inform the teacher running the lesson, not speak direct to the pupil. No I didn't say give a kid a beating btw.

Good luck with it all, my fiancé works at the school I applied to and hates it there, even my dad has issues with how the school is run as do/did a lot of the older teachers who made the place what it was and have since moved on. The head and Hyperion cause lots of rifts between staff so maybe it was all a blessing in the end.

If I can help in any way just ask

never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups!

    Thanks to Little John

My best advice would be to emphasis teaching and learning and that being the priority for IT issues as and when they arise, for projectors, desktop machines etc

Thank you Crazy Al. That is better than perfect. As already mentioned, I couldn't have put it better myself.

I owe you a crate of beer or bottle of your favorite wine. If I get the job, then wow - I wouldn't be able to thank you enough for your assistance.
I was thinking those words, I just didn't know them.

...and from the vague information I gave you this morning, that is quite some personal statement!

Including the fact I have already been invited to the school for an informal chat tomorrow to see if working in the school environment for and me and general meet & greet with the IT Line Manager, I already feel like I have a shoe in!

Classroom support is priority, if any support call effects teaching or learning then its priority.
explain you understand that a teachers job is hard enough without IT issues so any IT problem which arises must be dealt with in a quick and methodical manner and communication between support staff and normal staff is key, re: someone emails their printer is fucked... when fixed email them back explaining its fixed even if present at the time as this also shows on your email trail and support tickets.

    Thanks to consoles

It's very easy to say, but try to relax and enjoy yourself. An informal chat is very positive and will get you ready for the formal bit that is to come. I'm rootin' for ya and could do with some bloody good news for 2017.

Good Luck mate, I work in a University so if you need any advice about the educational side of IT then let me know
You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

Good Luck mate, I have been a techy / network manager for 15 years, you should mention something about the packages that school's use in particular SIMS school's information management system and the finance module of this package (do a google).
Someone mentioned earlier about teaching and learning so talk about this and the fact that if a kid does something wrong you would not smack him round the head but instead find a teacher!

    Cheers,

    Season95.
