Apologies, I had forgotten to check back here.

A few days later, it became fully active and accepting orders.

I was in contract with BT paying £32 PM for what was boarding unusable service, but still met their 0.5mb minimum. I then called them up to see what offers they had for Fibre etc.

Ended up getting Fibre Max or something, MIN guarantee of 35mb I believe, for only £1 extra!

Router coming Friday, activation on Monday, oh how my life will be almost completed.

    Want to know something shambolic?

My fibre never went live on the 25th like they promised. I went on Live chat a few times, wasted over 4 hours talking to them throughout the day, who kept trying to investigate before re-queuing me.

Called them up on 26th, to be told the connection never went through, but will do in 24-48 hours.

    72 hours later, nothing.

I get a text saying they're going to call me in a few minutes, no call. I then get a text to saying they tried to call me but I didn't answer and they would call me back in the next 3 days!.

They called me the next day and spoke to an offshore office, who advises me that unfortunately my area is not in a fibre area and I can't get it. They have reverted my account back to normal, and I will need to send the router back!

I told him that both my neighbours have BT fibre, but he says it's not available to me!

I go on their website, and put my postcode and my BT phone number in, and it says I can get fibre, everyone else on my road is getting it activated and most have.

I'm going to all them up tomorrow, as it;'s a fucking joke. BT are a joke.

I'm now hoping to raise a complaint to them, and get out of my contract. Move to Sky fibre instead.

FYI going with an alternative like Sky Fibre, Talk Talk etc wont help. They all still go via BT Openreach and 9/10 that is where the issues are.

Remember BT and BT Openreach are now run as separate companies (sort of)

Only Infinity 1, but wow, feels good to be back on something good.

Not the best but one hell of a fucking difference, finally, after all these years, I'm no longer on ADSL.

Least my porn streams in 1080p now, feel like I'm actually there.

    Man Muck everywhere.

Any real benefit to Infinity II which gets like 76mb. I'm the main user for streaming, rest are just social media and spotify, so not sure I need the extra bandwidth?

I have Infinity 2 and the main justification for me was at the time I got it the upload was 2MB on Inf 1 and 20MB on Inf2 and I upload quite a lot to web servers etc
As I now see on your speedtest Inf1 now getting 10Mb up then I might go with that when I move. Having the fastest downloads really doesnt bother me cos how often do you really use it as opposed to just wanting to be able to say you have the fastest etc
IMHO 50mb is enough for most households using as children do social media

    Thanks to piggzy

Where do I find that broadband journey thing which shows what stage the planning is at? I live on a newish estate and the other half has fibre but we have dsl (I get a max of about 11Mb). Whenever I have checked in the past it has always said no plans but there were openreach lorries in our locality pulling in cables this morning so I'd like to check again.

I wouldnt have thought you would get much more accurate than BT Wholesale themselves.

Try this link : BT Wholesale Checker

Interestingly this link shows I can get FTTP... yes the actual premises at 330MB
Now that bit above where I said you dont really need the fastest connection ;-)
    Better edit it quick lol

    Edit:
To add it appears the above checkers is starting to include info for BT's upcoming g.Fast technology. If anyone gets any info returned regarding this I would be interested to hear the details.
If you are unaware it is BT's latest bit of kit to allow fibre speeds over none fibre lines and increased speed for fibre users. A copper enhancer so to speak. Also improvments for those poor sods on aluminium.

Worked for BT for a long time and obviously things change, but if it is like it used to be I would assume within 6 months.

They are well aware (make sure your data is from wholesale) that informing a customer something might be available causes no end of constant hassling so it is usually a fairly short time frame.

By are starting to offer infinity 2 speeds to infinity 1 customer at no extra cost just an 18m contract but as far as i know your discounts are not extended. This is because the speed increases are definitely coming looks like there is going to be packages up to 100mb at least coming soon. This is probably going to be around the start of the year as there is going to be price increases at the end of the year by customers will prob be given the information about the increases in November when they are made public. The systems have been showing the new packages and there code names recently. However there isn't any real info on what the packages will be.

    2 Thanks given to trueblue924
