I have a Tassimo machine. The Costa ones are good but I only really drink Latte. Quite pricey pods compared to the Gusto but the Gusto was not as good imo. You can buy reusable pods for most types of machines which people say have varying results from. If you like drinking lots of coffee I'd stay away from the pod machines. If it's the occasional cup then it's not so bad.

I prefer the ones where you boil a kettle and add the hot water. I find all the ones that heat the water for you get it a piss poor temperature at best. I like my coffee to last so I can enjoy it. If it comes out of the machine at an already, almost lukewarm temperature I chug the coffee in one and feel cheated.
Hi
I did Barista training in italy and they do not want water boiling as they say it burns coffee, when they drink espresso they want it hot but nowhere near boiling.

My mate is a bit of a coffee snob and he won’t use boiled water as he says (I don’t know how true it is) it deoxygenates the water AND scorches the beans.
If the kettle has completed its boil cycle he chucks it and starts over.
My biggest gripe with the penguin shaped dolce gusto machine I have is that the drink it makes is lukewarm at best.

My other gripe when I have a coffee round someone who thinks they have a posh machine and then use the milk capsules which are obviously UHT. Can taste UHT a mile away... vile.
Yes some of the dolce gusto ones are 2 pods, one coffee one milk and they are always vile.

Hi
I use fresh milk with mine - the milk with tassimo is rank.

I was reading about the Aeropress competition they hold every year and some Japanese guy won it using a lower temp water. I followed his method which involved specific amounts of water at a specific temp and I have to admit, it was a great tasting brew. I was just letting the water boil then cool, not heating it to the right temp and stopping before it boiled so I'll give that a try.
Reading about malts luke-warm coffee from his pod machine puts me right off the idea, sticking to the grinder and aeropress.

I've got a pretty sweet tooth so I often get these.....www.amazon.co.uk/Jordans-Skinny-Syrups-Salted-Caramel-x/dp/B00GQJ4Q5Y. You often get them at TK Maxx for £4.
when I was reading about the Japanese methods of brewing, I bought a thermometer with markings for milk and coffee temps, the coffee markings are between 80 and 90 degrees. As I mentioned before, I boiled and let cool to 90 when I first tried it.
I've just stuck the thermometer through one of the steam holes in the kettle and stopped it when the temp hit the coffee hot spot and made a brew, and you know what, it tastes better. Who'd have thought those professionally trained Baristas are right.

Got no holes in kettle so gonna have to play around with timing pmsl
It has a sort of window so I can at least see when the bubbles are getting more active and flip the switch.
This might sound a little extreme but as I only really use the kettle for coffee I wonder if I could adjust the thermostat that tells it to click off etc???
Could always have a dedicated coffee kettle :-)
After having a Nespresso machine and it fucking up, think I'm going to try the aeropress
Came across a kitchen outlet store in a local mall and they had various nespresso krups machines in. Picked up a Pixie for £70 and blagged a couple of boxes of free pods.
What nespresso pods does everyone recommend ? Tried 3 of the official ones so far and my current favourite is Volluto which surprisingly is only 4/12 on the intensity scale.
I've read about ones in B&M etc that are supposed to be nice but I would rather try recommendations than blindly buying random pods.
