    Started adding the details.

Not sure on the grey. It isn't the one the originals were painted with (humbrol grey enamel) it's Testor corp Reefer Grey. Looks a little too dark for me. I'm not sure I can be arsed to buy some Humbrol and repaint it but the little bit in the back of my mind will always know it's not quite right and it will bug the shit out of me.

Foam fitted in properly, I chopped a bit more around the eyes. It's not glued as I'll wait until the eyes are in.

    So I fucked up.

I had a few beers last night and thought it would be a great idea to cut a template and paint the tube stripes.

The wonky template that was perfectly straight looking at it last night I taped a vinyl sticker to a piece of paper and printed the design on.

It's quite easy to sand off and it look a tiny bit more acceptable in this pic after I'd sanded for a few mins. It might be salvageable yet.

Anyway here's today's additions, teeth, edging around the front two helmet dimplets and the nose holes done

    Edit:
    Forgot to add this image

I remodelled the ear pieces, left is the old one but looks way too square, the right is the new bubbled look.

And here it is with the mic tips, not glued as I'm not happy with the gauze.

Brow done and fixed the tube stripes a bit more. I'm might mask off the edge of the stripes and spray over with white probably to make them straight and level with each or I might just leave them yet. The original helmets were hand painted so mistakes were made on those too.

Painting done. I have realised in the process of detailing it I have quite a shaky hand

Left to do is fit the ear pieces, paint a black line around the edge of them and then fit the mic tips. I might go grab some proper metal gauze from B&Q but I doubt they do 10cm sheets and will probably need to buy a couple of meters.

As this project is coming to a close I printed this:

I did plan to put red leds in the eyes but I'm not sure I can now without reprinting it. There is a 30mm hole that goes through the neck but the eyes would need to be drilled at a funny angle to line up with the neck hole.

It was printed in 3 parts so need to smooth the joins but should be a quicker project than this never ending stormtrooper helmet.

I've redone the mic tips. The mesh I had from a camping pan was black and was all wonky so I bought some aluminium mesh from the local motorist discount place for a quid. I think they look ten times better and I have more than enough left over to do my nieces and nephews helmets once I get around to doing them.

I used a chapstick to push the mesh through and trimmed the sides with scissors so it got a rounded edge, it's the only thing I could find that was just the right size but hey, whatever works.

Mics, lenses, ear pieces, and inside foam all done.

Only the right tube stripes to paint now.
I'm still not happy with the left so may sand them back, respray and paint them again.

Other than that it's pretty much done.

I can't actually remmeber. Looking at how big it is I'd guess around 15 hours. The plan is to spray it silver with red eyes.

I've started printing the episode 7 stormtrooper helmet so expect another thread popping up in the next week or so.
I'm using the cheapest of cheap filaments for this one which cost me £12 a kilo. As I'm going to be sanding and spraying anyway the colour and finish aren't essential.

Awesome job. I don't think there's a bloke in their late 30's or early 40's who wouldn't want one. I split 50/50 as to if I prefer the new or old Stormtrooper helmet! But since you've done this helmet i've lost hours of my life looking at very different star wars objects on Pinterest! This is incredible https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...217734e226.jpg

I'm doing the new helmet in another thread.
