    Default Ideas for what car

Hi all. Looking to get a car for the winter months. Will have around £3-£3.5K to spend. looking for something between 1.2 and 1.6 size engine, not too big as I'll be mainly the only person in it and preferably but not essential a Diesel.

Reliability is key for me, only local driving but want something I can feel confident with. Obviously the more service history etc. the better.

I'm totally out of touch with 'modern' cars, last one I had was 18 years ago!

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Few things mate

    * If you're driving locally, you won't benefit from a diesel, consider a petrol and a smaller engine, 1.2/1.4
    * £3.5k won't get you an uber modern car, so be realistic with the age.
    * You're looking for a car for winter, just this winter? Are you planning to sell it on in the spring? Think about cars that hold value if that's the car.

If reliability is key, and with the above requirements in mind, I would recommend

    - Ford Fiesta 1.2
    - Honda Civic
    - Volkswagen Golf Match 1.4 Petrol
    - Vaux Corsa 1.2

Would also punt for a Honda Civic. Had one in the past and the economy seemed better than comparable petrol's, even closer to a diesel than you would expect.
Very reliable too. Just make sure it hasn't come from a Gary boy who thought it was a type-r when it clearly wasn't.

Iv got a civic ex 18 ivtec , and its been great , 140 bhp and 35 to 45 mpg . No dpf ,dm flywheel or timing belt to worry about .
and as reliable as the sun coming up every day .

There is a few things to look out for if you considering one, the shockers last about 75000 on the front, the clutch about the same ,

There is a manufacturing defect with the windscreen rubber ,that screws the paint up
on the roof where it meets the screen , Honda fix this for free btw , even out of warranty .

The bad thing is they hold there price . but it works its self out because they very rarely go wrong .

I payed 3800 for 07 plate EX they have all the toys , auto headlight /wipers . self leveling hid lights , traction control ,satnav with traficmaster ,full electric windows, adaptive power steering ,cruise control , BT hands free phone . folding mirrors , alloy pedals .parking sensors ,and loads of stuff cant i remember. and beside a dash like a spaceship ..lol

Good luck what ever you decide . but you want go wrong with a Honda

The last two owners where woman so would probs account for it now that i think about it LOL
even though it had full service history and had only done 65k when i bought it .

Even though id rather the clutch hadn't failed ,i consoled my self with.... at least its new and i don't have to worry about it .
and if it had a belt i would have changed that anyway when i bought it anyway

moral of the story dont by a car thats been driven by a woman ....

    Thanks to plug1
