Default Boo hoo my amiga is dead

So it turns out that the folks at Commodore didn't think the amiga would still be around 25 years on and only made batteries to last 10+ years.
The result on the 500plus models is as in the pic. The expansion on the older 500s had a battery too.

Be cheaper to get a new mother board, but where is the fun in that.

    .

There is a company who have done a run of new 500+ motherboards.
    linka500+red.jpg

I found quite alot of info so should be able to repair it.

I'll post it up here in case it helps anybody else.

    service manual

    a500+exposed.jpg

Once its fixed i'll chuck it back in the garage and forget about it for another 20 years.

I ordered some bits to make a start so lets see how it goes.

could always put an emulator on the android box that, runs on hdmi too.

when it turned it on the power light flashes 10 small and one 1 longer flash. According to the internet go to try reseating the agnus......
when left on for 5 minutes the chips get warm to the touch except the gary, the one near the battery accident so starting there.

Check it out, click on a pin or via and it does a trace on the board top and bottom shows the route it needs to go.

Well I've got it booting up. Fixed 1 keyboard issue made another one. Drive is pretty noisy,I'll have to show that some love.

    Build a SCART cable

Hack up a ps2 mouse, you forget how not ergonomic the amiga ones were.

Buy and reflash a floppy disc emulator.

The key board membrane has a fault so a few keys don't work. They are available to buy so not the end of the world. Went on a quick recky of my folks attic and found this little lot.

    Happy days.

While I was in the attic I found some more bits for future fun when the dark nights come.
    Found a c16, a c64, a Kempston interface for a speecy, a snes,a nes and a cdtv. Found some Atari 2600 games too.

    Bloody awesome stuff.

I forgot about the Commodore CDTV it was there attempt at what MS did with the xbox. Bringing gaming and home entertainment all into one box.
Still sucks they went bust. What would their current gen hardware be like :-)

As much as I loved the Amiga, if they carried on I suspect they would have been shite. Stuff like A1000, A500, A2000 I believe could be compared to rival PC specs in terms of stuff like processing power and memory, however those Amigas blew PC's out of the water when it came to multimedia. As much as the AGA Amigas did improve on the earlier ones, by this stage they were lagging behind PC's in all respects.

Yes and no imho. The A4000 broke past those bottle necks and as far as rendering was concerned I believe one of those temporarily succesful series similar to Star Trek / DS9 was entirely rendered on Amiga 4000's and I also remember some (i forget which) Sheffield stadium proudly announcing using them for their massive mockup of a 100ft screen etc

Not saying it didnt need improvments and I am seriously wearing my Rose Tinted spectacles but come on. Commodore were king ;-)

Just remembered it was Babylon 5 . As far as I am aware it was rendered on A4000's with the 040 Co Pro.

Was a mildly entertaining series for the nerds.

Stay away Rap or before you know it, you'll have brought a non working amiga, spent 3 weekends with a scope and soldering iron having a great time and the missus moaning in your ear something about you not seeing the family much....
    Or something like that.

Made up the scart cable. Well impressed with the quality of the picture.

Got a keyboard membrane so the kb is all working.

Next on to the mouse mod to a new laser ps2 mouse.

Won't be long now before it goes back in the garage for another 20 years.

I had one and loved it, iirc was it shortly after the release that Commodore went bust and as a result developers stopped making games for it, which is why I binned it off. Wish I had kept it.

I hope mine is at my folks somewhere. Didn't see it in the attic the ither weekend so looks like a garage rumble is on for the weekend.

Been reading into the history of commodore, they made some gaffs,
For example they released the CD drive that only fit the 500 at the Same time the stopped making the 500 and moved on to the 600 which it didn't fit.

Somebody was saying they remember going in to currys and seeing the a570 next to the 600 on the shelf but they were incompatable.

    Marketing eh ?

Yeah they dropped some huge fucking clangers but they were my childhood and gave me great joy so I love em for it.
Shame they went the way they did. Some back handers, claims to buy em and carry them on but they for fucked over by a number of companies and fucked themselves too along they way.
Didnt Elonex buy them at one point with various intentions and then they too were screwed ?!?!? I might have that wrong.
