    Tech New Firefox Quantum browser.

Was made available in the last 48 hours.

Claims it is Mozilla back on form and puts them ahead of the competition in the tech news.

Well if that is true or not time will tell, but I will say one thing. It is fast as fuck for me.

Speed wise imho it is now

    FireFox Quantum
    MS Edge
    Comodo Dragon
    Chrome

(Opera fast but issues rendering some websites for me so gave up as I couldn't be arsed)

Same as me. They were great over 10 years ago. Saw this in my news app and thought why not. Pleasantly surprised.

for me Chrome Has gone utter shit in the last year or so. Bloatware city. Now google need to pull the finger out. We all know the are harvesting our data but at least give us a decent experience while you do it.

    Long time Firefox user here
57 doesn't work with a couple of my favourite plugins and cocked up my bookmarks ... so that's great.
I've bailed and gone to Waterfox

well all my webpages come up less than a second after pressing the URL button
DF id say about half a second from the fav tab in IE
installed Firefox and straight away it didn't recognize my Hotmail passy
so then ran Df and I didn't see any speed improvements over IE

maybe faster than edge but I use that for looking at the ladies

    Thanks to Mickey

I suspect like most major software releases these days that they are using us for free for testing.
Give it a couple of months and then we will see the true experience imho.

I haven't had any issues but then I don't really use any plugins.

Yeah I find it loads quicker too. Lucky for me I dont use any plugins atm but I did see some article where a guy claimed to be working on a program to make older Firefox plugins work in Quantum. Keep an eye out I guess.

Yes, Firefox used to be light and easy to use for me

Chrome has too much information and control over your pc/phone/tablet and almost daily it wants more info from you.

Much quicker for me and html5 videos seem to play better now. I've been using chrome for the last 6 months for youtube content as with firefox it was very choppy playback. This new version seems to have fixed that.

I think Chrome was good when first released but as time has gone on it has got slower and slower for me and ditched it when Edge came along. Edge isn't perfect but was way faster than chrome for me.

Chrome has disappeared up its own arse and got bogged down trying to please everyone rather than being what it should be, which is the best general purpose browser.

I used to swear by Firefox so I’ll give this a go for sure, thanks for the heads up.

    Found my first annoyance.
When you first run Quantum it displays (in my case) the last tabs/sites you had open when you closed it and it does it VERY quickly.
    However, it cheats.
They are not current (live) pages they are just a snapshot of the last viewed/cached visit to that page, so you have to do a refresh to see any changes as in the case of DF to see any new replies in that thread....
Not a deal breaker but a cheeky move to make claims imho

Still very fast though without this :-)

Did the installer upgrade an existing Firefox or best to remove Firefox and start from fresh?

And what’s with the iOS version being called something else. Is it the same?

It upgraded my Firefox DJOD and seems to work OK. I did used to have to restart FF every few days as the process started to consume around 3.5 Gb of memory. Been keeoping an eye on it and now there isn't just one process running anymore. At the momnet I have 7 running and the biggest is using 660Mb ranging down to 16k as the smallest of them. Most of them are using around 220-250Mb though.

    Thanks to BertRoot

I don't mind this new browser to be honest, the only annoyance I've found so far is for some reason, only on ebay, you think the page has finished rendering so you go to click on a link but it'll suddenly move as something else is drawn in and you end up clicking the wrong thing. It's happened a few times and only on ebay.

I used to love Firefox in the early days but as it got slower and more bloated I moved to the then new Chrome browser which was lightweight and fast but is now a complete fucking pig. Quantum is now my main browser and so far it's running great for me.
