Advice Recommend a cheap payment gateway

I have been using PayPal to accept payments which was easy as I already have a business account with them from the many years of eBay sales.
now it seems they may be taking a bit to much money every time I make a sale.

Can anyone recommend a cheap gateway?
I have been hunting about and found squareup amoung a few others and I like the fact I can have a lower fee with no monthly cost.

At the moment my sales on site are around ?400pm but that could change either way.
ebay is around ?600pm but I?m stuck with shitty PayPal there.

i don?t want to be tied into a contract just in case it all dies overnight and I?m left with a bill every month.

So so if you have a recommendation I would be very grateful.

    Cheers

What about Barclays? Last time I looked it was a toss up between Barclays or Worldpay really. I ended up sticking with PayPal in the end despite the extortionate prices and to be honest they are all much of a muchness really - also everyone knows PayPal and this helps with customer confidence Pretty much all the rest of the gateways are contract based. Hardly any monthly ones.

I don't know enough about this to contribute too much, but a pal is currently subscribed to Shopify and has it all included.

I have been using stripe since this thread and all has been great right up until today.

Now there is a new SCA or 3D secure feature which I just can’t get my head around.
My stripe dashboard states ready and so does my woocommerce dashboard but payments are failing.

What do I need to do please help me someone......

I still use PayPal with pay after Delivery set in my options. I have always got my money back or they had a valid reason why. sometimes contacting them by phone gets you what you need. if your a seller I still feel that PayPal is one of the safer bets, although the amount they charge is on a tad a bit steep

I still use PayPal but charges are too high.

monthly sales are now at 1800 - 2300 and eBay sales are at 600 so PayPal take a shit load of money from me.
stripe still take a fair whack but not as much as PayPal.

I think there's some new legal reuqirement coming in very soon that's made this happen - something about verification of online card payments and sometimes sending a text message with a code to enter online to the card holder.

Maybe worth doing a few dummy/test transactions for something like 0.01 with your own cards so you can see yourself if the systems are correctly working?

    Thanks to Over Carl

All mine are going through as are the test payments from stripe.
I have an sms service on site for order status etc, it can also do verifications so I will look into this side of it and see if that can help.

    All sorted now.
Seems it wasn’t me at all.

on a side note my eBay invoices are now 70-90 each month is there anyway to reduce this? (apart from ditching eBay)

I do have a business account and personal but the personal account won’t allow me to have stock left until cancelled.
So every month or whatever it is I have to re apply listings.

I believe the personal account is more expensive also for listings??

Yep, PSD2 (Payment Service Directive v.2). A lot is changing in the payments world with this directive. 3 factor authentication, open banking, etc

Have you thought about putting your website details etc in each auction and offering a discount e.g.

    ebay/paypal - 29.99
    website - 24.99

When i add details like come browse our website for special offers and news. that gets removed too i dont even add a web address anywhere as my details were all in the business seller information.

If I remember correctly, if you have a business account on eBay, you have an option to out your business contact details at the bottom of each listing. (I think just address and phone numbers thought, not websites)

Unfortunately there is no option to have the details in a prominent location in the listing, but better than nothing.
