Default Rural location how to make them continue fiber?

Hi chaps, I've moved to a rural location a year ago and the broadband speeds are shite! (Around 5mb at best) this pains me as I left 150mbs. Does anyone have any tips on how to get the nazis to provide a respectable service?

The nearest fiber box is around 1/2 a mile away at the most and there must be around 20 houses suffering.

    Many thanks,

    Devs.

Out of your control I'm afraid mate, you can request VM visit you area if they've not been before to assess the potential, something called CableMyStreet.

Down to the council and the fibre providers to get in.

I was recommended SAT Internet on my thread a few months back, that was a serious fucking consideration.

Cheers mate, I'm 99% sure theres no VM in the area at all.

Didn't realise that the council had anything to do with it. Might start giving them some stick as they'll be easier to grip than bloody BT!

I looked into sat myself, there was a couple of different options.. A guy over the road has a mast in his field and gets pretty decent speeds so I approached them but there wasn't any line of sight to the mast due to trees so that was a non starter. The alt was a different provider (pointing to the stars) but they didn't offer unlimited bandwidth.

Shite isn't it! I thought there was some minimum speed that had to be obtained?

You're way above any of that mate, you're talking less than a meg.

Are you in a 4G area?

I know Pickie, the house won me mate it's a palace. Thought I'd move and deal with it later

Yeah the 4G signal is pretty good I'm currently with 3 but they decided to limit tether. I've got (YouTube) kids and work from home so anything that's limited doesn't really work.

I was semmi hoping with 5G on route they open up the 4G but can really see that happening if I'm honest.

    Sucks .

Googling Wireless Broadband is the best you can hope for short term.
If there is one covering your area you can expect about 16mb up/down for about ?30+pm

When I used it , it was much better than using mobile BB even though the claimed speeds were higher on mobile. Mobile seemed too unreliable/inconsistent

Cheers piggzy, theres is a mast not far away but its obscured by trees unfortunately and the installers said it needed line of sight. Will take another look to see if anyone offers anything else.

    It sucks.

Gutted. Yes it does need line of sight. Would be such a shame if those trees burned down.

    Thanks to piggzy

I'm in the exact same situation. I only get 1.5mb so myself and a couple of neighbours have pestered the local councils broadband development officer. Eventually they took it up with BT / Openreach and it turns out our junction box should have been upgraded to fibre years ago but BT just ignored it and no one complained so it went unnoticed. It might be worth checking with the local council.

I thought we were shit in devon!

I have 77mb down and 20mb up now.
Bt gave me a free upgrade from 38mb not sure why but im not complaining about it.

I do feel your pain though before we moved we only had 0.5mb down and the internet was worse than dial up.

Trying to get VM to put cable in will be almost impossible. I used to live in a house that was part of a new build cluster of 6 houses. Set back from the main road by about two car lengths. VM had no interest in doing the work for so few houses despite the fact that the main street was cabled. The cost v return just wasn't worth it for them.

Is there any way you can receive one side of the trees and repeat the other side?
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...
