Yeah that makes more sense but when I have seen them in action people just smash erm down as is the culture of the "cant wait society" we live in now where as tea is about sitting back relaxing and waiting for it to brew ;-)

Yes you need a bit of patience. I have found 8 minutes of steeping before pushing down the plunger for the perfect brew.
When at home the procedure consists of pouring the boiled water into the cafetiere followed by "OK Google, set reminder for 8 minutes called 'TEA'"
