    Default Presentation for interview

I've got an interview next week for a job in a renewable energy power station and I've got to prepare a presentation on the opportunities and difficulties I might find in the first year. I've got a good idea of what I should put in (Opportunity to learn new skills and develop existing ones, growth industry. The difficulties - little experience in a power station, have to earn respect of colleagues and learn quickly). Does anyone have any experience in these type of things? It's been a while since I last had an interview and I certainly didn't have to do a presentation. What's wrong with a quick chat over a cup of tea?

    Cheers

I know. The best job I ever had was also the best interview. Basically got told to wear whatever (turned up in shorts & Tee-shirt) and had natter about Resident Evil 3 and FIFA. Got the job there and then.

PMSL Classic. It's the best way to get to know someone when its informal.
You can have the required qualifications all checked out before somebody even turns up for the interview so surely the important bit of that process should be to ensure you are not about to employ a raging thunder cunt and the best way to do that is as you say a nice chat over a cuppa.

I once had to attend an assessment day at a posh country hotel for my current job. Anyway, everyone is sat there in suits and this guy rocks up in a tracksuit. He gives us all the once over and asks why everyone is in suits. Anyway, someone explains that we're going to do some tests etc and then an interview. This poor guy thought it was going to be some sort of Krypton Factor style assault course followed by a fight to the death. Needless to say, he didn't get a job. If I remember, we had to do a presentation on our favourite fictional character and he picked his little lad? He started it off with something like 'My lads a right character' and then told half a dozen stories about him.

I think informal is the way you get a lot more out of someone in a relaxed environment rather than the robotic formal answer "My biggest weakness is that I work too hard"

Tests are good but again putting a logical question in there is as good as some technical questions Like on "Men In Black" when they all uncomfortable trying to scribble answers and Big Willy just pulls the table over and uses that.

Hi mate. Not that it will help much but I had an interview for a renewable biomass station a few years ago. Didn't have to do a presentation but if you learn the basics of now the plant operates then that will go in your favour.

This was a chicken litter plant that burned the litter to power a boiler which in turn produced steam powering the turbines. I had no knowledge of steam turbines but researched the basic principles and they were well impressed. Offered me the job that day but stupid me turned it down.

Couldn't tell you anything about the thermodynamics it was mainly the mechanical principles of how a steam turbine works.

What's the position your going for?

It's a team leader / control room operator. I'm a control room operator in a chemical plant at the minute and to be honest I didn't think I'd get an interview. I have some experience with electrical isolations but that's it.

    Thanks to TJB

That's the positions I'm looking for at the moment. Control room operator or maintenance tech. I'm more mechanical biased and have only basic electrical skills.

Good luck with the interview mate. I've been search job sites everyday for renewable plant positions in my area
