    Default Peugeot 207 repairs

Never really done repairs on my cars myself but fancy giving it a go,
Bought a little Peugeot 207 run around as a second car that I can try repair and don't mind it being off the road or me making a bullocks of things.

Need to replace the rear coil springs which seems like it might be easy enough , but learned these things rarely are as easy as they seem

Anyone got any experience with or workshop manuals for a 07 plate 207

Recently did a front coil spring on a motor. Not same make and although rear should be easier to replace I know one thing.
You need a proper spring compression tool with the semi circle plates to sit the spring in that you then wind up to tighten etc
Have seen these other springs compressors that wilco/halfords I assume would stock and maybe I am being a pussy but fuck me they don't look man enough and I reckon people must have been killed using them after they give and a spring goes rocketing into someones head at 50 miles an hour :-)

Just dont use iron bars and bits or rope lol

Someone more in the know like Overcarl might call me out for being a soft cock but this is the type of spring tool I suggest : Ebay Link

Not cheap but the point is finding one you can borrow, its the cheaper £15 ones that terrify me.

you shouldn't need spring compressors for the rear the shock absorber and spring are separate

put a jack under the car and undo the top mount on the shock absorber
jack the car up until the spring is loose , pull it out and replace it with new one
pull the shock absorber back into place and bolt it back up, you might have to let the jack down a bit but should be doable without touching the jack

Use a decent trolley jack not one of those next to useless scissor jacks you get with the car, make sure it's secure when you jack the car up and it's best to use an axle stand to be safe

if you don't understand any of this get a mate to do it

Don't need spring compressors for the rear, just unbolt the shocker and the axle will fall enough to get the springs out, well that's how I remember them.

I used to have a C4 Loeb it was all mouth no trousers but I loved it. When I went to change the auxiliary belt I found out how well Citroen engines are designed. They have 5 mm holes all over for dowels to fix things in place while changing belts even the timing belts. Aux belt took five minutes. Must stop typing now as the predictive text is fucking me right off like a goodun.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

207 rear2.pdfdid one a few years ago, easy enough, but not as simple as hynns says
think I need to take the wheels off to get the axle to drop low enough to remove spring, maybe I should have lifted the back of the car higher from the ground, (I started doing cars in the 70's when if you lifted a car by its jacking points the car just bend in half, because of rusting)
scanned the page in hynnes manual but too big to post (1m) pm me

think i had to compress the spring slightly to get it out/in, but as I said I didn't have the car that high at the back

Finally got time to look at this properly today. All went pretty smooth thanks to the help from everyone here.

Took about 90 minutes start to finish, hardest thing was getting new spring in place, once I enlisted someone to stand on the axle to push it down it took no time to get it in place.

Only problem is I noticed the front driver sides springs broken and not as springy ( 2 coils sit together ) and its slipping off the cup at the back. Guess that will be my next task and then onto replace the brake pads

    Nice result

Just thought I should mention driving a car with a broken spring is illegal and dangerous.

Even if my some miracle it doesn't affect the handling, there's no guarantee the bits wont move and slice through the inside of your tyre at the worst possible moment.

    Thanks to Over Carl

Yeah I'm not really using it at the minute, should get the front spring fixed in the next few weeks. Be interesting to see what needs fixed next!

    Thanks to mitchb
