We just bought one of these Char Broil TRU Infrared jobbies from Asda:

Tried it for the first time last night and for us it's great - we've got one toddler with another on the way so gas worked better for us for now.
All the food we did was great, it's just an arse to clean afterwards as the mrs wanted halloumi which she didn't oil and it stuck to the grills like a bastard.
The burgers and sausages were awesome - I've bought a little smoker box to try that next time we get some good weather.
To clean these you just put them on full whack for 15 minutes and then use a stiff nylon brush but even that didn't get everything off so I've got some BBQ cleaner coming from Amazon today to try.

I'm massively into making tandoori/tikka etc to the point where I can knock out restaurant grade mixes off the top of my head, but at the minute I'm just grilling. The flavours are amazing, but I know they will be better on a bbq or in a tandoor.
I'm going to try a few pieces on a disposable bbq, just to see if my thoughts are right, but ultimately, I'm going to build a flowerpot tandoor. looks a piece of piss and I reckon it will be the bollocks.
One example:
Corr, looks right mint that does!
I've been looking at the same about making a Pizza Oven, seems pretty cheap to do, and doesn't take that long, using a Gym ball and wooden pallet etc!
Nice, let us know how you get on, I think it looks the part and very well priced! I'm eying up the duel fuel from Aldi, I think a duel would be best so I will use charcoal when I have the time and gas for convenience.
EDIT: damn, the one beans posted has sold out but like the look of this, over budget but but I guess it saves in the long run by not going out...

These are possibly more suited for on your travels than for home use, though we do use ours for home and away as I absolutely love it.

I'm guestimating that we have been using them for about 9 years, and I'm currently on my third one, with a fourth one in the garage still boxed up waiting for such time as we need it.
It heats up in about 10 minutes (sometimes it gets too hot and you have to back off using it for a few minutes, and when you pack it away into the "snuff out pouch", it saves about 50% of the charcoal for next time.

Bought a dual fuel this morning so hope to have the best of both worlds, one or two poor reviews but the vast majority on the site and other sites say it is solid and still going strong the following year. I think it may have 5 years warranty but unsure, found some product manuals online that suggested that. Looks like it may be a Wallmart own-brand:

I think this may be the manual for Canada and they say 5 year warranty for burners (1 year for everything else) but I will wait and see if a model is printed on my box and look for my manual. To be honest I would never expect it to last that long but if I can get a few years out of it I'd be happy and by then would go for gas or charcoal rather than both.

Just a quick question... I'm thinking of building an ugly drum smoker as I can get most of the parts from work Anyway, I have a choice of two drums .... One has an open top with removable lid but is lined with paint and the other has had food grade oil in it and is unlined but it doesn't have an open top so would require me to cut the top off and source an alternative lid. I know the one with food grade oil would be safe after a burn out but does anyone know if the other would be safe after the paint is removed and had a burn out?
The general consensus is to use food grade drums, however I used any drums I could find back in the day making sure I fired them off to get rid of any nasties and I'm still here. If you are going to weld drums stay away from anything that carried fuel. Now a days I would stick with food grade drums. One thing you must never use is galvanised steel on anything that gets really hot, it gives off some seriously toxic fumes including Cyanide...
