    Photos Sunfly (Helophilus pendulus)

Not seen one of these in the garden for I think 3 years now. Commonly known as the "Sunfly" (Helophilus pendulus).

    Paul.

2nd and 3rd look very sharp and clear. How close are you actually in relation to the insect?

If I get a wasp photo this summer, I'll let you know...

Distance wise, I was no more than 6 inches away and as close as 3 inches perhaps...

They will fly off with the merest approach so stealth is the order of the day, just nudging the lens a touch closer every few seconds.

    Paul.
