Default Audi A3 2015 - Looking for advice

Just looking for some advice on mileage correction.

My Audi is some 6000 miles over the 24,000 I agreed to when I got it on finance, so it's gonna be a fair wedge to pay the excess.
Someone told me about correction but I'm wondering if I can get rumbled.
I had it serviced late last year (not at a dealership) but they didn't stamp the book saying that it isn't done that way anymore, so is there a record kept somewhere on the car?
Would the person who 'corrects' the mileage have to alter the service record also in the on-board system so they tie up?

Any advice would be great, thanks.

    Correct.

On this Audi, the Key record total mileage of each key, along with how many times it's been used to start the ignition, along with any error codes. I not know if altering the miles in the ECU will alter the key data, or if the key data will stay original from another back up source at some stage.

    Thanks to BigBrand

I don't do anything to do with mileage but a few things I've randomly found poking around car control units.

Some cars will set fault codes when it sees mismatch between certain control units. There may or may not be a notification of this on the dashboard.

Seen cars with faults codes that have mileages against them that are a fair bit higher than the current mileage (Some cars/modules don't store mileage or store a spurios mileage and need to be aware of this)

Seen cars with service entries recorded that don't add up with the service records on paper.

Seen cars with service entries recorded at higher mileages than current mileage.

Seen DPF regeneration history higher than the current mileage.

I even know of one car that burnt down 3 days after someone did the mileage. (No electrical fault, the idiot didn't know how to tidy up his dirty work in the engine control unit).

This stuff is more what I've seen in BMW/Merc, but I think you can get the idea that I'm not a fan of mileage correction (and that's ignoring any moral aspects).

I believe there is 2 ecu on BMW and the key , just don't start it with the spare.

True BMW have it in the key. And a few more places

But then when you get it serviced by BMW this entry will show up in your I Drive display. Even if you get it serviced by a BMW specialist with an online account it will also show their service in the same way.

I know how to delete these entries and add anything I want but it is pointless as the next time the car gets serviced by BMW or specialist with online account, the correct service history will be overwritten.

This means the owner couldn't just get the mileage "fixed" once at the end of a few years, it would need to be done before service (or before MOT's if it gets that old).

How much will you have to pay for the extra 6000 miles?

Depending on just how big a hit you would have to take for the excess mileage, it might be more frugal trying to buy it to either keep or throw it on Auto-Trader (they'll likely just throw it in the block anyway).

Clocking cars is a serious offence and if caught then you will most likely spend some time behind bars.

You got to ask yourself is it really worth the risk?

What's your per mile charge? £0.08p? Seems to be the average these days. That'd work out at just under £500.

I'd probably recommend just stumping up the cash. Alternatively, if you're going to get another Audi, try come to a compromise or tell them you'll walk and get a car from another manufacturer.

The risks probably outweigh the benefits.

Guys, attached is a sample report of what data you can get from the Keys.

On Audi's they do a memory dump which occurs at random stages throughout the journey and last trips. It records this from multiple data points in the vehicle, amongst other interesting bits.

Wow .. thanks for all the replies.
I didn't think anyone was interested in this section anymore and then bam .. loads of replies.

I think I might just take the hit .. I've got a job now (was made redundant in Jan) so even though it'll hurt I'll save up and stump up the cash.
I've also got a bit of a scratch on the bottom of the drivers door where I think some little shit hit it with a scooter or something, so that's another hundred quid or so, I need to find out the cost per mile over.

New employer is giving me £3k a year car allowance so think I'll get a 3 year lease on something, not sure what yet .. was considering a Merc GLA200 SE, budgeting around £300 a month - anyone got any mates in the business?
