Default What is going on with Firefox?

For years I used Firefox as my primary browser and loved it, but for last 10 years or so I've been using Chrome and fairly happy. I'm having an issue with Chrome and Flickr that is driving me crazy (And some others on Flickr Community) so I thought I'd retry Firefox for old time sakes and see how I got on.

    • Windows 10 X64
    • Clean install of Firefox
    • Single addon - LastPass (Mandatory)

I migrated my bookmarks across and in two minutes I was set up - checked the Task Manager and it's using over 2GB RAM ... what is that all about?

Same tabs in Chrome (With an additional extension - Windscribe) is only using 750MB RAM.

Anyone else using Firefox and experiencing this issue? The problem I have with Flickr is this and the only way to resolve is doing a complete reset.

That's why I've always used Microsoft Ie, just checked, got 8 tabs open and using 300 meg.

Try removing all plugins and things, especially any that load up into Firefox like Malwarebytes/virus web protection programs, that's a lot of memory used up

I thought Firefox was redesigned from the ground up within the past couple of years to make it the fastest and most efficient browser. I must admit Chrome is my main browser as I haven't made the switch yet but I tend to install Firefox as the default browser for most clients now and cite privacy as one of the main reasons over Chrome.

There's an extension for Chrome called the great suspender that suspends idle tabs to free up resources, there might be something like that for Firefox. Was it a clean install of Firefox?

So they claim, but the latest version continues to have various stability issues with cloud based systems at work that IE and Chrome don't.

I'm actually giving MS Edge a go. I've been forced to use it at work recently and find it hasn't been too bad.

It was . Firefox Quantum and for me at least it is far, far faster than Edge or Chrome. I occasionally use Edge for when a site just isnt working on FF but that is quite rare.
Since I saw this post I have been periodically checking its memory usage and for me it has never gone over 1GB. Seems to hover around 700MB no matter how many tabs I have open.
