Info I need help in setting up an original Xbox

I need help in setting up an original Xbox that i gratefullygot from Prezzzy the other week, what I intend to do eventually is set up astandalone gaming cabinet which has the Xbox at its core. the problem is that Icannot remember how to set up the Xbox game iso's apart from burning them todisc. I did download a load of isos but when I try to burn them with imgburnthey don’t show as an Xbox disc SO WONT LOAD. I’m guessing these games I’vedownloaded are meant to load from the hard drive? can anyone give me anypointers on what I need to set up - thanks in advance as I cannot for the lifeof me remember.

eventually I’m wanting to set up like a gaming cabinet whereas soon as you turn it on the unit will boot into a menu of games is thispossible?

failing that does anyone know of a good source to downloadiso's that are ready to simply burn to disc and load from that disc

Have you installed a larger HDD? You really should consider this if not, saves fucking about with discs. Search for the latest coinops, check the file size and make sure the hdd you use has the capacity.

As for the burning question, iirc, you just burn them. You sure it's soft modded correctly?

    Good resource here

What dvd drive does your Xbox have? Some have trouble reading either -r or +r

From memory the Original Xbox only read -R DVD's. It would not read +R or any form of RW's.
I also remember it being fussy as fuck with the media. Everybody got Ritek or Verbatim off the top of my head.

Cant remember any special burning method though, that was the 360 that again you had to use Verbatim DL DVD's and I thought that was the xbox that had iso's for HDD and iso's for burning.

From what I remember the Dvd drive had to be flashed for it to read burned games and as Piggzy they where really fusst about what disks could be read... pretty sure I used to use riteks but they had to be the white ones..
There was only one type of drive that could be flashed...

I used to use imgburn to burn the disks but I thin there was a setting that had to be made and also the burn speed had to be the slowest.

I used to use a hairdrier to get the warranty stickers off without tearing them so I could put them back on if I needed to send the Xbox back when it red ringed... All great fun

@RaMx not the original xbox mate your thinking of the 360.

The original Xbox you did have to burn at 1x or 1.5x or it wouldn’t play.
There is an app for playing iso’s I think it was either Xbox2dvd or something?
to be honest it’s been so long I’m only guessing.

I do remember I used to ftp the games across from a pc but my memory is so bad I can’t remmber last week let alone 15 years ago lol.

what he said, I'm just setting one up, avalaunch dash and qwix to transfer stuff fastest way. if its a 1.5 version or below make sure you remove the clock capacitor.

Like I said doing one at the moment, If you want better display output set to ntsc, i'm using a vga output thing i brought many moons ago, Link to the vga output convertor
If you want to make your own cable you will need a vga injected bios by frosty the snow man IIRC.
    Spoiler:

Also If your doing an emulation box, check out BAED (big ass emulation disc) has lots of emu stuff and if I remember correctly a good front end.

    Spoiler:

Sorry for the higgledy piggledy post, but it's as it comes out the archive from back of my brain... If it had a smell I bet it would be musty.

just checked the BAED iso's are still available in newgroups in A.B.games.xbox if you want them. 06/04/2012 was the posting date.

    Ted
Edit: also I'm using a Samsung pc drive with flahed f/w so its a lot less picky about what it will or wont play, when I go back in the garage I'll get some numbers off it for you.
