    Default Watches

    Any watch fans?

If so, interested to hear what you have in your collection, and what you're looking at in the future.

I started with an Orient Day & Night, before collecting Seiko SKX 007, 009J1 Pepsi, couple of Vostocks, Tissot PR100, Hamilton Automatic, Hamilton Khaki Field.

Moving towards a RAY II and a SIN 104 in my next two watches, one day looking to an Omega Speedmaster Professional XXL and then a Rolex Master II GMT Pepsi.

Would love to see/heard your collections.

Must be just me but I lost interest in watches about 20 years ago and dont think I have had one since.

I just think it feels a bit primitive to have something fixed to your wrist to tell you what time it is.
I have no interest in a watch as a status symbol either. It tells the fucking time, end of.

I have looked at a watch and thought. Thats nice and when I did use em I had Tag Heuers....

Just seem pointless now. We ALL have mobiles and they tell the time too so whats the point?????
Just my 2p and not slagging anyone off who loves em just dont get it anymore.

i have not sure on model numbers...
a protrek can’t remember the model as I haven’t used it in years as it died a horrible death sadly
A gshock gba9600a it’s a Bluetooth model with iOS connection which I purchased in USA around 2009 I think and it’s still going strong.
i have a few cheap watches I used to wear to work and some more expensive but not great watches somewhere in the loft I haven’t worn in years.

At at the moment I’m using a cheap diggro watch from China which is pretty cheap and tacky but pisses all over the fossil q watch I had for a week.
my next purchase is a Samsung galaxy watch which I’m only getting for the battery life

It remarkable how much you rely on it for the time and date when you wear one everyday. I love all my watches, some are cheap, some not, but they are for me, aesthetically, mechanically, and each has a history, that's the beauty for me.

My Hamilton Auto is my most expensive, but I actually enjoy wearing my cheaper watches much more. I enjoy changing my straps for the occasion and get much enjoyment from this.

Hit the right combination and my god, they just look beautiful.

Tell me what I am missing then? Never looked into modern wrist wear.
I assume they must do more than tell the time the way you 2 are finishing each other off ;-)

See I'm an old schooler, and opt for mechanical and auto watches.

Looks at some of these combinations:

The new Rolex GMT is what's known as unobtanium. There is a 5% across the board price increase pending in the UK too, even if you were at the top of the waiting list. Rolex seem to be really pushing for exclusivity now by availability, or lack of it.

I started on the slippery slope about five years ago when I bought a Glycine combat sub. A lot of watch for the money, ETA 2824 and 200m diver in a relatively thin case. This was the first watch I'd paid a few hundred + pounds for to see if I'd just end up wrecking it. Walked past walls with my hand behind my arse etc. Found it to be really robust and started swapping straps, bought bergeon tools all that lark.

Liked the Glycine so much I had a Incursore Big Date for my 40th, it's just peachy with a superb movement. Big and very legible. Clear case back to admire the movement, ETA again - 2896 from memory.

Two years ago I became a Chartered Engineer so marked the occasion by buying a Rolex Milgauss z-blue. I'd wanted one for a while and could afford it but wanted to achieve something for it first. It's fantastic and I wear it six days a week. Every mark or scuff are mine and mine alone, not that I'm careless or anything.

Couple of months ago I put down a deposit on a Tudor Black Bay GMT. The supply of these is also limited and that's not been helped much by some early ones having a date change issue. Nevertheless once I get it it'll be another keeper. I could sell it straight away and make about £800 on top of retail but this is to wear in lieu of the Milgauss for a while after I nearly seriously damaged it locking up the site at work.

Really enjoying reading about luxury watches. Just should have taken up crack or something instead.

Smart Watches don't count, but the Casio very much does.

I've got a Casio EDIFICE Black, bought it second hand for £35, and it does get some wrist time.

I have always wanted a TAG Heuer but never justified the price. In the last few years, I have had various smart watches and just had to buy the TAG modular 45 when that came out. I recently bought the mechanical module and just love switching about the combination of strap and different time piece to suit what I may be doing.

    Cheers.

Got one of the Milgauss and the most recent one.

Have a photo of the combat sub but I'm in it. Will take a photo another time. Have the dark blue face, gold coloured baton hands, gold coloured PVD on the bezel. Had a rubber strap smelling of vanilla, replaced with several NATO straps and a cheapo bracelet. Really should have bought the bracelet straight off as they are relatively dear afterwards. Common sense says that buying any watch with the bracelet first is a good move.

Yes agree, bracelet in the original buy, always worth it. Trying to chase originals can be arduous at the best of times.

Love that combo mate, bet that fucking shines at the right angle.

It can be really bright or so dark it almost looks black. I took a photo on site today but didn't upload it as my shirt looks frayed to fuck - embarrassing. Anyway here it is, looks flatter and darker.

I’ve had a bunch over the years but got rid of most over time. I have a nickel allergy and pretty much can’t wear any watch for more than a day without it starting to burn my skin. Omega seem to last the longest, but had to sell all the Rolex’s as they were terrible, even though they say otherwise.

    Currently have
    * Omega Seamaster w/ NATO strap
    * IWC big pilot
    * Hamilton - can’t remember the model

Next on the list is likely an old pre-97 Monaco, or a Panerai regatta.

    Thanks to Tammer

    Now that's a fucking watch.

What strap have you got for it?

Same watch Chris Harris has worn on Top Gear, although he tends to wear an Aquatimer mostly from memory.
