For a good place to look for a second hand detector is on Facebook.

Search for “Metal detectors and equipment for sale uk only”.

Loads their gong for a song and dance.

Anything worth a good value or just bits and bobs.
There was a chap on the beach a few weeks ago he was wondering up and down, thought I might like to give that a go.

Metal detecting isn’t just about value of what you find and is frowned upon by some, it’s about the history of the items found.

And if your lucky you may find some gold and very, very rarely a hoard.
