I wasn't aware that the 464 plus had no on board rom. I did a little poking only to find the data lines were all doing nothing.
Turns out the rom is on the cartridges even though the system has a cassette player there is no way to use it with out there being a cartridge inserted. I got a cartridge from evil bay and found a hacked version that needed writing to an eprom. Desoldered the old eprom carefully, the chip on the top of the cartridge is the copy protection chip (acis) and is apparently very susceptible to heat.
it now boots directly to dos, now i have a chance to try the keyboard, only one key worked no.4.
Luckily removing and reinserting very carefully the ribbon cables brought it back to working order.
Cleaned the tape heads and it loads games.
Type |game and it boots straight in to Burnin' rubber.
Nice.
think i'm going to go for the bigger eprom and stick four 128 images on it and use switches to change the image.
