    Default Anyone good with xpenology?

My trusty old hp server is now outdated and needs the new xpenology but I’ll be fucked if i know where to start.

im on 6.1 how do I update to the latest build ?
there’s so many tutorials and variations I just looked at it and thought fuck that.

any help even pointing me to the right tutorial would be really helpful.
    HP54nl (yes I know) running 6.1

    Thanks in advance.

I have read through that site a million times.
to be honest it got a bit too techie for me with Linux commands.
since 6.1 I’m lost apparently 7 is completely different so there’s no upgrading so to speak?

I can’t shift over to windows as I’ll loose too much data and I’m lost with docker too.
I installed LiDAR in docker worked great apart from I couldn’t add a folder to download the files to.

Unless there’s a simpletons guide for 7 I’m fooked lol

I have a HP ML10 Gen9 that I installed Linux Mint with Samba shares on, its also running Plex and Sonarr.
Although its not proper server software it runs and acts exactly as my previous Qnap did.
It's been running constantly for five plus years without any probs I just update and reboot once a week or sometimes longer if I forget.
Linux Mint is like Win 7 easy to use and free.

    Thanks to RaMx

    I can't change os
I have over 20tb across 5 drives and it's all formatted for Synology so unreadable under anything else. (Or so I'm told)
I might just say F it and get a new server and drives and copy the data across when I get some spare dosh.

    Thats a pain..
You could perhaps make a bootable usb drive with linux mint on boot off of that and see if you can see your data.

I had an HP 8 Microserver which was running DSM_DS3617xs_23739 which I no longer have but it performed fime but then the security isue wasnt a problem because it wasnt exposed outside my local network, Do you need to upgrade past your version or upgrade to another HP microserver, install your drives in the same bay order and install 6.1 again ?

    Thanks to icewarrior

    I’ll try that.

The apps have all disappeared and the running ones e.g. sonar and sabnzb all need updating but there’s no updates for the 6.1 os.
LiDAR no longer works at all and plex I have manually updated no jacket or couch potato anymore.
so I’m slowly losing the reason to own the server.

If I can read the data under Linux I’ll switch to that but my only other option would be new server and some new drives.
Poor baby is struggling now she’s done well for 10-12 years old.

I always wanted to upgrade to a gen 8 but things got in the way then I heard bad things about gen 9 so left it.
im now thinking of grabbing a small case and motherboard combo cheap.

I got an 8 port raid card, 5 drives, dumped XPeno;ogy and built my plex server into my PC with a Silverstone case. I turn it off each night and have saved quite a lot on my electricity in doing so, dont need it at 2am so why leave it on.
I could have run the raid on XPenology but no real need as works fine now.

Or you could go back to HP and start again but I think XPenology may have had its day, excellent while it lasted but with new Synology updates needing more and more modern hardware etc maybe time for a total rethink.
