When my Xbox completely froze, the following steps worked for me:
I pressed and held the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 15 seconds, then it turned off completely.


After turning off the Xbox, I unplugged the power cord from the back and waited 1 minute. Then I plugged the power cord back in and turned on the Xbox. My Xbox turned on and booted up fine, a hard reset solved the problem.
By the way, while the Xbox is working fine, you need to follow the updates. Settings > System > Updates & downloads > Console update.
