    Default Wifi card for Laptop

My boys Dell (Only 2G) laptop even though only a couple of years old doesn't have Virgin 5G support over Wi-Fi.
We're on 100Mb & all them hot babes movies aren't downloading fast enough for him!

Assuming Intel would be my best bet for driver compatibility i was looking at this as a cheap an easy upgrade>

Would this be plug and play and support Virgin 5G, & what speed would be expected ?

    Wireless: 2.4G/ 5G Dual-Band, Support 802.11A/ B/ H/ G/ N
    Interface: Mini PCI-E
    Transmission Rate: 300 Mbps Max.

Over recent years I have had numerous issues with Intel cards not getting the throughput they should, even after tweaking it's not as fast as it should be and quite often need to downgrade the drivers to fix. Not sure how widespread it is as I always relied on Intel cards but whenever I search I find pages and pages of others with similar issues.
