Default Problem with Work PC-Win 7 Pro

I've been having problems with my work PC for the past year or so and my IT dept are clueless and unwilling to help.

When I try and move certain files into a folder it states something like 'unable to move files because the files are using another process'. I've closed down all other programs but it doesn't seem to help.

My IT dept suggested a while back I close down 'explorer.exe' which I do but then I can't access anything else as my screen is completely blank except the wallpaper. I then have to restart my PC which solves the problem. IT seem to think restarting my PC several times a day is is a viable solution.

What file types are you attempting to move?

A quick solution would be to copy the file into the new destination then try and delete the original.

    Thanks to Ganty

Have you tried to move them in safe mode?

You could try using [Only registered and activated users can see links. ](free utility) that can help move/rename/delete files that have a handle open on them. I still find some files are stubborn and Unlocker will not work on them, I think I then use (been a while) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and find the handle then close it manually.

As above, what files are they and what is the file path? Do other files move ok?

Is this a network or local folder?
Does the full file path and file name exceed 255 characters?

    i.e.

    \\servername\folder1\folder2\folder3\folder4\filename.ext

The files are MP4's and CUT files. They are moved from my C Drive on to a network drive. As i said I need to restart my PC before I can copy them over. It's a right PITA.

Are they files you have been working on then try to move? If so then looks like a process has a handle on them. One more thing that may help, if you have the preview pane enabled in Explorer then disable it as I have seen similar issues when that's enabled and in use.

    Thanks to evilsatan
