    Help SKY HD / IPlayer

    Hey all
    Quick question

Does anyone know if the Free BBC IPlayer / 4OD works on a SKY HD box with no sky subscription.

Just for my Wee Gran she is looking to catch up on her soaps so was just going to connect up a Sky Wireless booster but did not know if the IPlayer / 4OD ect works on the box if no Sky Subscription as they like to lock down the extra's if no valid subscription.

Was just to save me set it all and it's locked out with sky.

    Thanks

I’m not sure but a cheap amazon fire stick or similar will run them if that’s any easier for you? Needs HDMI though, by the sounds of it she doesn’t have a modern tv with the apps built in so not sure if she has hdmi input.

If my memory serves me right, HDMI ports were fitted to TV's in the mid 2000's which is a few years before smart TV's became common place. Doubt if there are many TV's still going that don't have at least one HDMI connector. (">

The main problem is she is 83 and a technophobe she has a smart tv upstairs but struggles to understand the menus/ remotes.

She is ok with the sky remote/box so was thinking insted of going in to the tv guide
Show her the catcup then BBC iplayer.
    Simple for her
But would need to connect up the wifi just wanted to know if it's worked before i spend half a hour setting up for it to be blocked.

or it's the A4 guide written out for the smart tv

You can customise the main menu on the Firetv stick so it shows the apps you want easy access to and it has a home button on the remote like an iPad does so it acts as a "safety" button for people who aren't confident with tech and can use it to get back to a familiar screen when they are lost in the menus. They are really simple and straightforward, only a few buttons on the remote. Just food for thought as I couldn't answer the sky question.

Yeah the problem is with that she struggles as

one remote to change to the source then one remote to use it that were she just struggles to understands and get her self stuck on the wrong source or wondering why the firesick remote is not working on the sky channel

She is a bit stuck in her ways so was trying to keep it simple as possible i will give the sky thing a go if not

think i will need to do something like this
