Booking hotels worldwide through a VPN

Hi All

Has anyone any experience of booking a hotel abroad through a VPN? Does it work...will the hotel complain upon arrival?

Looking at booking a hotel in Asia through a US comparison site which is giving me a cheaper rate than UK sites like booking.com etc

I can't see why a hotel would complain if you booked through a legit site and paid upfront. The only thing they may care about is if you are ordering at a "locals" rate. I booked a fancy place for my girlfriends birthday in Sri Lanka last year and they had one rate for Sri Lankans and a higher rate for anyone else.

If it is a US comparison site then you would assume it is a rate they are happy for Americans to pay and I don't know how they would tell you don't live in America if it was even brought up.

When checking in they normally ask for a passport meaning it would be a British pp, that's the only point where they might ask why I have booked from the States...this is what I am assuming they might not say jack...anyhow I will book and see what happens

I know Brits who now live in the US but still have an active British passport, I can’t see it being an issue personally. I’ve booked flights using Asian sites in the past because they were cheaper than the UK sites.

You could be in the states when you booked it... Ive booked hotels from all over the workd and never had a prob checking in.. they ask for your passport and maybe a credit card for a deposit etc.

One trick I have used is to use two browsers with the same hotel site and switch one to the local language as locals sometimes get a better deal.. this has worked quite well for me in the Philippines, just use the english version to help you navigate if you get lost.

I've booked hotels in USA, using Hotwire.com and a vpn and paid the same number in Dollars as I would have in pounds . ie $99 £99, so made a saving of 28% as I had dollars already on my currency card

I used ctrip but have tried that since and didn’t make too much difference. I am using booking.com and Agoda at the moment for Asian accom.
