Sound Bars

I'm totally out of date with this whole kind of stuff - my only entertainment source is my PC linked to a monitor with a 2ch stereo amp, so I haven't got a clue when it comes to all the latest and greatest of this kind of stuff.

I'm looking to get a sound bar for my sister for Christmas.

She hasn't got a smart TV (only TV with freeview).
No PC (although will probably be getting a laptop soon)
Has iPhone (old version - 5 or 6 I think).
Also has 2nd phone supplied by work (can't remember what it is).
No internet connection (will probably be getting one in next few month)
No media streaming box type thingies (may change when she eventually gets internet).

She's not shit hot like us with techie stuff but not totally useless either.

Budget - £50-200.

Would be very grateful for any suggestions.

I have a Canton DM100 and the sound is phenomenal. More in price range is the DM55 which I have heard good things about.

The sound bar really depends on what output the TV or setup box has, Optical out is best but most have AV and Bluetooth.

My Toshiba SBX4250 is a nice piece of kit, cost about £60 on ebay years ago and it boost the bass and sound really well. The Digital audio has at times stopped for a split second and got annoying so went and used a jack socket on the soundbar then into my android TV box, The sound seems to be the same quality and there is no blips in the sound.

I would highly recommend a sound bar as the new TVs of today have very thin outer edges and the speakers are so tiny they are not upto anything decent like a big bass sounding film. You need to get good quality ones though not the shiity Goodman's/bush type crap you seen in Aldi or tescos, Look for something over 200w ones

I would recommend mine as they have Bluetooth so I can link up my PC/phone/tablet etc etc to it also.

We have a xiaomi tv bar, not sure what name they give it officially. We got it mainly because the plasma doesn't have any smart tv features and that's pretty much a necessity now.
I dunno if I'd recommend it though, It's certainly leagues better than the sound coming from the TV (apparently some western sound engineer did the design) but next to the little bookcase speakers I just built, it sounds weak and dull. Probably fine for a woman though.

It's like most things speaker wise - You get what you pay for. If you're happy to go to the upper end of your budget, the Yamaha YAS 107 is a decent sound bar. I've got the YAS 207 which replaced a full home theatre setup. Honestly, I don't miss my old setup at all.
