    Default Which RAM?

Lad is looking to upgrade the RAM on his system, but i am a bit clueless!

    His system currently has:

    8 GB
    Amount: 8 GB
    Speed: PC4-17000 MB/s
    Type: DDR4-2133
    And it says:

Dual channel (one DIMM per channel) memory architecture
    Two DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
    Supports PC4-17000 (DDR4-2133)
Supports 4 GB and 8 GB UDIMMs

    NOTE:
Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
    NOTE:
Maximum memory shown reflects the capability of the hardware and can be limited further in the operating system.

I can see there are 2 x RAM slots, 1 has the 8gb stick and the other slot is empty.

What 8gb stick is compatible please? (all my searches seem to point me to Corsair ValueSelect):

Looking at what you've put, it seems like he is using 1x 8Gb stick already of DDR4 and has a spare slot.

I'd match what he already has as a pair.
It doesn't really matter what RAM you go for, but when there are 2x mixed the system adjusts the RAM capable of faster speeds down to match the slowest.

Seems you have DDR4-2133 already. Get an 8GB Stick of that.

What manufacture is in there already?
Assuming this is a laptop yes?

    Probably around 30 quid.

That's desktop Ram. A Kingston stick will be fine.

HP is generic, so as long as the speeds matched, it will work great.
