My boys PC need a cpu upgrade, as some stuff its runnng at full pelt.
His current CPU is askylake i5 6500 socket 1151 & his M/B is THE Asus Intel ROG STRIX Z270H GAMING LGA 1151
I have looked at the Intel Core i7-7700 (3.6Ghz) LGA1151 & the Intel Core i7-7700K (4.2Ghz) LGA1151 but not sure if either is a value for money and how much difference it will make.
Obviously the 7700 4.2 is better, but is it going to be that noticeably different & is there something else which is better value for money.
The i5-9400F maybe a worth a shot also, as he is running dedicated graphics.

The K series CPU is unlocked so can be overclocked and the Z series motherboards support over clocking so that would be the obvious choice if there wasn’t too much money between them. You would want to update your boards BIOS to latest first and make sure the processor is on the supported list for the board. Then make sure you have a cooler that’s up to the job, the OEM cooler of your current processor won’t be good enough.
I updated the Bios in preparation yesterday & got on to Google.
Weighing up the price of a the older Intel Core i7-7700K (4.2Ghz) against a newer CPU & M/b, im gona update the M/B & buy a better CPU as tbh, its only going to cost a little more with the current deals available.
