Individually Addressible LED Display - Help

Been looking at some of the terrific Xmas light displays on the net and fancy having a go at this. So need to buy sufficient individually addressible LED strings ( recommendations on what or what not to buy ) and already have a Rapberry Pi3B so has anyone here anyone done any of this or have any recommendations or links for idiot proof anim software for the Pi or Arduino board to create an anination or lighting displaty sequence ?.

I've had play with this used 2812b addressable strips and Wled, take a look at Dr zzzs on you tube, I just didn't get the time to spend on it in the end....

It would be cool to have an LED net that could be controlled to play basic animations, could put it on the front of the house and run festive scenes. I’ve never looked into anything like this though, will let you know if I see anything online.

Have a look at the WLED project on github. Arduino controlled and has android and iphone apps to go along with it.

Yep, I've been looking into this as well, primarily to make an Ambilight system for my TV as well as crimbo lights for next year.

If you don't want to go down the DIY route then Twinkly do some interesting stuff

Yes looked at the Twinkly stuff and they have some really good lighting effects and movement but unfortunately at quite a price

Did you use individually addressable LED's and does it work with Netflix / Prime video etc?

Used a ws2812b strip and only works with external TV sources as it uses an hdmi capture device with a usb loop. I use a shield for Netflix but TV based apps it doesn't work for.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I watched this today on YouTube, it doesn't go into massive amounts of detail regarding the tech, but it might give you some other ideas on how to use it?

I thought LED panels would be good, Where did you get your panels and how many are you using ?

Had to laugh at the YouTube guy, 8:40 into it he opens up his folders and theres a XXX_Mature one sitting bottom right

LOL thats class, I never spotted that, and I usually look out for such things.
I went for the Ali Express purchase option (see the youtube video for details in the clip info bit), meaning they aren't here yet. I have everything else sat waiting, including PI image file ready to rumble.
