Default speed reading and photo reading

anyone have experience in these fields? im about to go off to college, having never really payed attentino to my textbooks, i know, having taken a few cdollege courses, that ill have to read a shitload, and figure an increasement in speed would help me out. if you have done any of these, were they seminars? books? computer programs or websites? what are some free resources

    and does it really work?

just try skim reading the things until you find the important bits and then read them more carefully.

most of the text in books isn't too important.

most speed reading programs just make you recognize words faster, but don't increase your comprehension

having severe attention problems myself (not inability to focus, but rather constantly being focused on 10+ things), i go crazy reading books...i read the same line 4 times in a row without realizing it

99% of students don't read their textbooks but rather go over what was covered in class, any lecture notes, and look at the bold in books

99% of professors know this goes on and don't have a problem with it, so they don't look for answers that require that you know the 17th word on the 37th page of the chapter to get it right

There are people that can speed read, and actually understand every detail of what they have read, but these are people that have worked at it for years and years. Correct me if I am wrong, but speed reading is generally a scam, and wont help you.

Speed reading is just learning to read the sameway you do now but faster, you usually chase your pen or finger, the whole thing is based on you practicing to read faster not to difficult not that effective most people dont practice enough and if you arent good and try to practice on textbooks your just not gonna understand anything and you arent gonna remeber anything.

Photo reading needs training its based on looking at a page and magically remebmering in your head its like photo memory its hard to learn but very effective you need lessons on this

i'm a bit eccentric, i'm told... my friends think it's weird to have 2 TVs, 2 stereos, and winamp running in the same room.

Yes this type of stuff can work. I did some in HS and have a rate of 600 to 900 wpm by taking blocks of words rather then reading them individualy.

Once worked with a guy that did Evalyn Wood (sp?) he could count the parts coming out of the machine at a high rate of speed and be right time and time again.

azrael69 - this i understand, you dsylexic? If so go into A/E.
