    Default Really dumb question...

How can you tell which releases fit on a CD or not??

Some of them are clearly labled *CD Version* which means it had downsampled movies and such...

Most dont say anything at all... for example..

The Thing is 10 * 50MB = 500MB so that should fit on an 800MB CD but I realize its compressed.. yadda.. yadda.. so could the ISO be larger then 700MB?

Basically.. whats the rules in this world...

Well i don't know where you're getting your shit from but i just double checked just in case i was going crazy and all 8 games i got are NOT compressed. If you get them dalnet or something then you're in another ballpark.

The official releases are most definetly compressed....

So lets not start arguing about that...

As I said... since i dont have a DVD burner (yet..) and im not swapping hard drives (yet..)

Is there a way to tell if it fits on a CD!?

(I really didnt think the question was rocket science....)

You sort of have to guess. Sort through the nfo files here and if there is no rip version of the game, and it looks like it could be small enough, then it probably is.

The answer to your question is: No. That is if you haven't downloaded it....
But if you download the release and open the archive you can see exactly how big it is. To fit on a 80min CD it needs to be below 728mb in size.

    Crystalclear, right.

Thanks.. thats a good idea... should have thought of it myself..

Although would it really hurt the release groups to just put on the .NFO (80Min CD (Y/N))

Hehe my effort to change the scene!! Surprised no one else has cared so far.. you all have DVD burners???..

(Im just waiting for the 4X dvd-r's so the 2X drives and media will drop)

as far as I know, rips always fit on a 80 min cd, except if a group fucked up the release, so these is no use of putting in the nfo if a release fits on a 80 cd because the word 'rip' pretty much says the same

i don't know here's what i get from the size of Mat_Hoffmans_Pro_BMX_2_XBOX-ProjectX. All the rar size is 3.00 gb and then the iso is 3.06gb. Maybe i should stop smoking weed but .06 gb is not a lot of compression...

Yes, you should quit. First of all, if what your saying is true, then it is an extremely rare case. Most games are usually compressed so that they are 20-50% smaller. Sometimes more. If the game itself uses a system where all the data files are compressed (using its own software), and it decompresses data on the fly, then the rars won't compress it nearly as much. This can also happen if most of the game's data is videos. Videos are always compressed with a video codec- usually Bink w/ Xbox games. Uncompressed video at 640x480 25 or 30fps, can be like 80 megs per second, so compression is always used. Even HDTV broadcasts are compressed with MPEG2. WinRAR isn't going to take out any significant size from compressed movies.

Yeah but the point of the original post is that only a small percentage of the releases are labled *RIP*..

    Nice stats BTW...
