well im upgrading my machine without any connection to doom 3 but ill be happy to see it runnin well.. in less than a month ill be using:

AMD K-Athlon XP 2200 and a gf4 plus 512 ddr, if that wont cut it, im not gonna upgrade it anymore, no... so if that answers ur q.. i dont think ppl should really upgrade it for 1 game..

Well if you want to know what kind of machine you'll need.. This is based on many article, and interviews read..

To play it nicely and at medium settings, ull need at least..

    Pentium/Athlon 2ghz+
    Radeon 9700
    256 mb ram
    5.1 sound card

If you're asking about how to get such a computer, theres no shortcuts.. you must head down to your local computer store..

you should really wait until theres a release date on it to be asking about upgrading cause by the middle of next year, there will probably be 5ghz processers and geforce 5's if not 6's. and the doom engine was started in the geforce 1 days and was presented at a geforce 3 show so it doesnt need a pc from 20 years from now to play. dont forget that ID wants to make money so they wouldnt make a game that 25 people can play.

i hope it'll work on my computer:

its kinda like what katlani is upgrading to:

    amd athlon xp 2200+
    512mb ddr pc2700
    msi geforce4 ti4600-vtd
    creative live! 5.1
    crative 4.1 surround sound speakers
    western digital 80gb 7200rpm

and some other stuff that probably doesn't matter...

i wanna upgrade to the new amd athlon xp 2600+ though...and maybe even radeon 9700...but i just know that nvidia will fight back with something better so i guess ill wait. anyways...can't wait for this game! should test my comp

Yeah, I'm sure my 2.4 ghz processor and geforce 4 ti4600 will play it fine, hell, I'll probably get an Nv30 by the time Doom 3 is out.

I'll get the fastest AthlonXP that there is next years and a R9700 or nv30/nv35 and another stick of 256mb ddr ram. That should be enough for doom3 to run.

You have to think about this logically. Remember when quake 3 came out? Well that game ran at full detail on my old p2 300 128mb ram and a riva tnt2 ultra. Games that now use the same engine, like MOHAA, Wolfenstein and of course SOF2 would never run on such specs - not even close!

My point is this, if you upgrade for doom 3 then it will not only be for just that game as there are other titles in development that will use the same engine like Q4 (so were led to believe), I think by Raven. If you play SOF2 then you know that it needs a monster puter (by todays standards) to run it at FULL detail and decent FPS when its basically the same engine. Im talkin 2ghz, GF4, 512mb ram and so on. So with that in mind i think your gonna need to over do it so to speak on the upgrade, firstly to make sure you can enjoy this groundbreaking game/engine at its finest, and secondly to make sure you dont need to upgrade again when the likes of Q4 and others come out. As katlani said theres no point in upgrading for just one game that will more than likely be over in like 15 hours.

Bear in mind that im speaking from the point of view that the machine i have now is no where near what Doom 3 will require to run at max. 1.2 Athlon GF3Ti200, 768mn DDR and a SB Live! 5.1. Like most of you have said there will be faster and cheaper hardware by the time the game comes out which should see you right for atleast a year beyond Doom 3.

the most important factor is the video card because it is the one that renders the graphics, not the CPU, the cpu only assists in the transfer of data and mathmatically operations{coprocessor}.

well.. it is actually that high..

they had the game running at QuakeCon in medium details at 800x600 with a:

    P4 2.53ghz
    Radeon 9700

so, that is medium settings. If you want ultra high maxxed out gameplay, then you'll need like 3ghz NV30 or higher..

Actually i was getting 30-40 fps on q3 full detail. Saying that tho, there were 2 maps that struggled quite badly when there were like 6 or 7 bots. As for playin online with full detail....FORGET IT! lol.

Just overclock one P4 with LN2 and that's it . You might have to change parts often

I'm pretty sure Id aren't expecting people who want to run it at highest setting to go out and buy a p3ghz and NV30. Id's engines have always been smooth on low spec systems and I reckon (and hope) that 2ghz+ with a GF4 will be able to run it maxed out fine. The game isn't finished yet, so we'll have to wait and see when it comes out what recommended specs are.

the game was made with geforce 3 card in mind, 1.5 ghz gf 3 ti 500 will run the game just fine

btw, the recent demo at quakecon was at full detail (not medium) using the radeon 9700, anyone with a top of the line pc today shouldnt have to worry

As fucking IF the minimum requirements are gonna be over the 1gig / 64meg geforce 3 mark / 256 meg ram.

There's just NO way in hell guyss, i mean if would completely slice there sales to what they could get... and i'm sure they know that.

my GUESS is it will run maxed out on a 2gig / 512meg ram, and geforce 4 ti4600 / radeon.

I mean its scheduled for release early next year... meaning that they aren't going to be adding more neat sepcial effects and shit at this stage of the product life cycle! They will just be working with the tools they have to construct and finish the levels.
