Someone should look into how the demo and gamespy arcade get authenticated to receive the list from the master server. That can possibly be implemented in the retail version to skip the cd check.
Yep, it's on my gamelist in gamespy now. And it works flawlessly in the 3 or 4 servers I quickly tried. The links on the front page of gamespy didn't work me, bad links but it was already in my gamelist and works there. Using Gamespy again has quickly reminded me how much I HATE IT!!!! Here's hoping ASE hurries up and supports it too.
Now if only I actually liked this game. It's nothing but a bunnyhop fest, jesus...
Yup. It works fine on GameSpy.
Some of you still are wondering about the authentication algorithm.
On connection to the master server the master server sends a random seed in decimal ascii. This seed is taken to create the 2nd MD5 hash in the packet following from the client.
Since the communication is started from the master server (i.e. the master server cannot know yet if its talking to a demo client or retail client), it might be interesting to see what the demo client sends. If the master server doesn't categorize connections depending on the tag they send it would be possible to use a demo logon to have the retail query the master server list without problems. However it seems that the number after the CLIENT tag is the version tag / build engine number of the client, so that might cause problems with it causing listing the wrong version servers.
The server/client itself can expect 3 return values,
APPROVED, DENIED and UPGRADE. I haven't seen the former two yet, but they are referenced in the source code. The build number (3B xx xx xx) thingie is hardcoded in the current retail build.
I'll research the logon with the demo client to the master server later today and possibly patch the retail client to react the same on logon and see what that does.
Also it might be interesting to look into querying master.gamespy.com now that Unreal Tournament 2003 support is fully functional there. It might not check CD keys, and as far as I know its mirroring ut2003masterX.epicgames.com directly.
Small change now overnight.
207.135.145.3 (ut2003master1.epicgames.com) is now reporting DENIED in the packet after we send our key hash and the challenge hash. This is different becuase sniffs from before just showed the connection dying, I don't remember seeind "DENIED" in the packet.
I tried changing the default master server in the ut2003.ini to master.gamespy.com, no workie.

So, why all the fuss trying to connect through the game itself?
You can even get all the ip's from the servers listed in Gamespy and add them to your favourites.
Just go to >Options-->Games-->My Games.. make sure that UT2K3 is visible on gamebar and check the location settings. You may get an error, restart and start fragging!
sweet lol i was about to buy this game too... thanks gh3yspy ;D
anyone know if/when ase's going to support it?
oh yea and do u guys think that they're going to patch the servers so they check cdkeys?

Nope. I know the ASE guys say they were "promised" access to the master server by Epic, but I don't know how true that might be.

I'm a bettin' man, and I bet they WILL use some form of GAME server key checking for protection, instead of the lame master server check. Especially now since GSA can be used to just go around their master server cdkey check.
Actually, at this point, they might as well remove the master server key check completely as it no longer makes any sense.

ok, yes its all good that we can go around it using gayspy, now with every forum ive read telling people about this, and being online and seeing people get on going "hooray i can play my warez version online" you would think the developer would put out a patch to stop this, but then wouldnt the developer of thought of this loophole before releasing the final game? hell i dunno, im happy, if they patch it up, shit ill buy it, if not ....

WELL, ill think ill save my 79 (canadian) bucks. Wait another 5 days and see what come's out. There is a saying...
"If they give TAKE, if they TAKE SHOUT"
and you will see

Here's how I managed to play:
I first downloaded a program called qtracker, its like ASE, download it at http://www.qtracker.com
Then find a server with version 2107, its the final.
Connect and start fragging!!!!!!!!!!
Side note. Epic is NOW checking keys for servers trying to add themselves to the master server's list. This means you will stop seeing pirated servers in the list from gamespy. Oh well.
:/
At least we can still play eh?

before this week is up they will have some kind of real auth system in and that will be it for playing on these servers
I think you help a lot, and with you we will get to the point.Originally posted by kb420

In fact i made a mistake i didn't quote the good msg.Originally posted by Fro
umm... yea...
do you even know what the fuck netstat is for? sure, maybe if you wanted to know what it was connecting to and you didnt have anything better to log it with. but i mean damn, netstat wont do you jack for good in termas of analyzing packets themselves
But it was for one guy who where looking for the server port, and no way for analyzing packets.
And yes i know netstat, thanks.
Guys, lets keep this a useful discussion. We don't need netstat atm, so I don't think anyone needs extensive netstat classes right now .
