Video Card Troubles

Ok, this has been going on for a while.

The first problem I had was that the comp would restart out of no where, but I just read a thread any corrected that.

The other problem is that any NEW game such as UT2K3, BattleField 1942, GTA3, and Aliens vs. Predator 2 crash within 2 minutes of starting a match or level. I get either a General Protection Fault, a Direct X 8.1b runtime error, which is total bullshit because I installed it TWICE, or the blue screen of death in which my computer crashes and restarts itself.

My video card is a 64Mb GeForce 2 MX/MX 400. I have the latest non-beta drivers, 30.82, installed.

My other comp stats:

AMD Athlon 1.2 GHZ
512 Mb Ram (Not sure which type)
Windows XP with SP1

Now, if anyone has any ideas or solutions to my problem I would be very grateful. I have reformatted my comp, 7 times, yes I counted, trying to correct this problem. Thanks to everyone in advance.

sounds to me like you need the via 4-1 drivers...also remember sometimes you need to install directx after your video drivers.

So install via then graphics then directx...this is just a guess but you can try it

If you dont have the via chipset then install the drivers for whatever chipset you have.

I think you have parts of old drivers on yoer system. goto guru3d.com and grab the detonator destroyers and follow their driver update procedure. its a little bit of a pin in the butt however I have not had any video problems since I started using it when I updated my drivers.

Sounds to me more likely to be a hardware problem (poor/underpowered power supply, faulty/incompatible memory) rather than a software issue.

Intresting. How would I be able to figure out the problem, just by simply opening up the case and looking around or what?

Unfortunately, swapping out the memory, power supply or whatever with another is the only way to really get down to the cause of the problem. That's if you're sure it's not the software. Faulty/incompatible memory and cheap/underpowered power supplies often cause stability problems from hell.

Reformatting 7 times like you did sure doesn't sound like it's a software issue. Good luck.
