dvd-r and cd-r on ps2 & xbox...whats the difference???

New-B question here...whats the difference with using these two types of media for your console (other than hold more data than the other)? Does cd-r load slower for ps2 and xbox? What are your expeirences??? I wanna know before I go wasting my money. Any comments that are helpful are appreciated.

xbox was made only for dvd games. ps2 works with both dvd and cdr games. Cdr are in the ps2 because of its backwords compability with ps1 games. plus some games can be made and they do not require more than 800 mb to play.
