Default TROUBLE WITH OLD GAME CLOSE COMBAT 4 UNDER XP

I know it's old, but this game is good. I have XP installed and the crack does not work; however, after patching the game with the #2 patch (15mb) it runs, but after a few minutes drops me to the desktop with an error message. Any clue on how to make this game work under XP?
    Thanx for the help!

you know what would be really brilliant? Actually posting what the error message says. Then you might actually have someone suggest something useful (unlike this reply)
