    Default 1024 Mo of SDRAM with Windows 98

    Here's my problem, I used to have 256 Mo SDRAM of Generic Brand. I purchased 2 X 512 Mo of Kingston SDRAM recently and put it on my system. My board supports it.
    I use a dual boot system (Windows 98SE/Windows 2000). Windows 2000 had no problem dealing with that but Windows 98 refused to boot up. After a little search on the web, I've found that putting this line under [vcache] in SYSTEM.INI would help

    MaxFileCache=524288

    I rebooted and it worked. Great. Now, I want to know if this setting is an optimum setting for my system. I read different people telling to not touch the MaxFileCache, others to include a MinFileSize, etc...

    Can someone explain me what is the best setting for me and why.

    Thanks

    I guess W98 supports up to 256 or 512 MB so the rest is useless. Maybe too much useless RAM, so W98 is thinking... Get out of here and just start W2000

    Just kiddin' about the last part

    Why you just dont install win XP that's W98 and W2000 in 1 OS

    XP can use NTFS and FAT so for security you dont need w2k...
    just think about it

    I'm dual-booting win98 and win2k because I like Windows 2000, pretty solid OS, all my work is on Windows 2000, all my softwares and there's a lot of them. I'm keeping Windows 98 for the gaming. There's absolutely nothing installed on Windows 98 except games, I have the masimum performance from my OS when I play games.

    I'm waiting Windows XP to reach SP2 before installing it.

    you can run Windows XP with games too, and you don't need the SP2, just install the updates from
    windowsupdate(s?).com
