Default laptop user desperate for extra storage

using my laptop at uni has its advantages but i am really in need for some extra storage. my 9gb drive is constantly full and i really wanna take full advantage of my bandwidth and network but dont have the space to store any downloads.

ive got an old desktop with a 60gb harddisk - is it possible to make a simple connection between the two just so i could use the 60gb harddisk?

are there any other alternatives part from this or buying a burner for the lappy?

    thanks in advance

If the 60GB machine is with you at UNI, then purchase 2 cheap network cards and use cat 5 cable. You will only need a short lengh if the machines are close together.

I would then used the 60GB as the main storage for all your downloads and what ever you need to take with you copy it to the laptop. The more expensive way is WIFI (wireless connection) and that way you dont need cables everywere.

The other option is to purchase an external device were you can fit a hard drive in and connect it as an external hard drive via your coms ports, the copy it all to there.

Network it all together, use an external drive or purchase a bigger drive for the laptop.

    Regards,

    Brian

I'd go with what The Realist said...

PCMCIA Ethernet Card for the laptop
PCI/ISA Ethernet Card for the PC.
    Twisted ethernet cable.

5 minutes setting up a LAN connection, jobs a good un...

or you can get a usb/firewire harddrive case for you laptop and have you 60gb harddrive in that. i think they are about #30 -50 depending on the connection type. for me this is the easiest. and works a treat. and its as portable as the laptop. so take it where ever you go.

You can also get parrallel hard disk cases if your laptop does not have any USB ports. And stick the 60GB drive in that.
