ok ive ****ing torn the ligaments in my knee AGAIN, this must be the 6th sodding time. f*cking thing.

14 operations over 6 years to put mine back to somewhere near normal.... Once they are torn you cant do the stupid sports that you want to...... you'll just shag your knee again!!!

yup, first time i did it was playing squash, this time just walking down the stairs, its just realy unstable and goes at the most random moment. which is a bitch

Ouch Man- I've done the same thing to both my Knees in seperate Skiing "mishaps" If you don't get it seen to it won't get any better and if it's anything like mine then just the slightest stumble or badly placed foot will put it out again.
Needless to say I can't Ski anymore.
Hope you can get it sorted out M8.

rite knee doc, this is wot happened:

first time it happened was playing squash, turned around quickly and my knee felt like it was crunching. things felt like they were snapping and i just fell, screaming in total agony. its a really sickening kinda pain. knee swlled up. taken to hospital, say i tore ligments, cant remember which one (crucial ligaments perhaps?) on crutches with physio for ages. it has happened on numerous occasions since with varying severity. this time wasnt so bad, after the inital sever pain, i was off crutches after 2 days and just limping about, with my knee strapped up. its just a bitch cos it always feels like its gonna go agen and its bloody annoying.

do i need an op? because i was told i could do permanent damage if this continues.

K sounds very much like your Anterior Cruciate ligament (ACL), this can rupture when you pivot exactly as you described, often happens to footballers and rugby players as well as skiiers.

The knee will feel unstable particulary when you try and twist on it or put weight on it on a slope. the problem is once you rupture it you can easily keep damaging the knee if you try and continue with sports.

My advice would be to see a Doctor and ask him to set up a meeting with a specialist in Orthopaedics, there are a couple of standard tests that can be done to diagnose an ACL rupture, most commonly the Lachman test.
If you want to continue sports, surgery is the only way to go in order to replace the ACL, you can however carry on as it is but you would have to limit your lifestyle to avoid undue stress to the knee, it depends on you.
