    Default New Hard Drive Problems

    Hi

    I recently perchased a Maxtor Diamond Max 9 120Gig 7200rpm with a 8 MB Cache.

I have had nothing but problems with it since i installed it!

I have a feeling it has bad sectors or somethin, when i boot up my machine the S.M.A.R.T Has Status BAD!

Also it seems to think it has Windows XP installed on it! I have to catch the operating system selection at start up as the one it chooses as drfault wont load anything, the second one will.

Here is my current IDE Setting

    PM - Maxtor 80Gig HDD
PS - Maxtor 120Gig HDD <- New one!
    SM - Memorex DVDMaxx 16x48
    SS - Plextor Plexwrite 24x10x40

I am going to run the maxtor software off the site which tests the drives and see what happens!

    Cheers

If S.M.A.R.T reports an issue with the drive, take it back m8, most likely you do have a physical failure on the drive.
You might be able to use it for months even, but eventually it will fail.

The only other thing, you could try is reseat the IDE cable to the drive, I've heard incidents where S.M.A.R.T believed there was a failure on the drive because of the cable.

    All the best
