was having a look for any damaged components and i found a blob of solder on the underside of the floppy conector could this be a manufacturing fault??
Check if you can find in your manual, what the 3 fried pins are used for, it will probably reveal what has happened.
It's got to be one of these three though, Power Supply, Motherboard or CPU. My guess is the Power Supply.
All the best
“If I asked you to have sex with me, would the answer to that question be the same as the answer to this question?”
Definitely the PSU overloading. The three burnt pins are all from the same power line (same colour wires).
I agree with u guys, the red wires are usually the 12volt ones.
it was sabotage! lol
LOL thats is funny
any one here do motherboard repairs ??
if u are in canada come on by!
please pm 4me2, ABCMan or Czarjunkie with an explanation why you failed to post or request help posting the email headers of the email you mentioned (along with the full headers) too late Ive banned him after no response for 48 hours (4me2)
it looks to me as though the problem has come from a "loose" connection or even a "dry" solder joint
I agree with 5 bellies.
The red wires are the 12V from the PSU. It looks as thought it got a massive surge of power.
Have you tried taking the motherboard back????
They will probably also blame the PSU and may not replace it.
looks to me like a short circut or reversed plug or wireing glad its not me
I would take it back, and not tell them about it. Just put the connector back in, and say the thing just keeps turning itself off.
Let them sort it out, then its not your fault. You dont have to tell them youve looked at it.
sorry, just read your post properly! LOL
Take it back anyway, and say the blob of solder screwed it up, and blew your PSU. Say you were using the PSU with another motherboard initially so you knew it worked fine.
Ok I was gona take the motherboard back and they asked me to bring the power supply, when I took a look at the supply it turns out that my trusty 300w power supply on closer inspection is only around 265w I’m sure to PSU over loaded...
Anyway I decided to repair it ( the mother board that is )....
First I took the short of the floppy connector out...
Then i took out the ATX Power connector that was a bugger.....
I used a power conector from an old bad motherboard i had... and hey presto .....
I havent tested it yet will be doing that later tonight....
Opps no picture !!
Nice work m8, let us know how you get on.
“If I asked you to have sex with me, would the answer to that question be the same as the answer to this question?”
I guess that the fault would have been the fact that the plug was not pushed home and it was tracking out, arcing, that is why the computer kept shutting down. If the power supply gave a surge the damage would not be on the power plug it would be on the weakest part of the circuit, like a thin track or a component would have cooked, as for the PSU not being powerful enough, that would have blown either the PSU itself or just the potection fuse in the PSU. The short circuit on the board may have no barring on the problem because the computer worked? if the short was a problem then the computer would not have worked and it would have smoked from the beginning.
Hope this helps,
Lurch
Its working!! been on for the last 2 hours with no problems powered by a 550watt supply, tested the floppy drive USB ports etc looking with no problems… looks good
gona have to sell it now
